license plate light not working

Hi I have a 2007 997S and a couple of days ago my lights for my license plate went out. I have had after market ones for a few years now with no issues. I tried replacing them and have done this twice already and both times the lights wont even turn on. they are error free leds. I even tried to replace back to regular factory bulb and it still wont turn on. what can i do??

I'm not sure if this is what is happening in your case though... just some info to consider. In this guy's case, just clearing the fault code fixed it. I don't know if you'll be so lucky.

so took apart my rear bumper and some how the harness had come undone. I plugged it in but then only one side started to work and the other side was still off. I switched bulbs around and it was still the same.

Maybe you already know this, but most LED bulbs have polarity and will only work if inserted in a particular orientation. If you are trying this with LEDs, but sure to try the bulb that doesn't work in the opposite orientation. Maybe you flipped the bulb over when trying it on the other side.

If you still have a problem, it is fairly simple to remove the whole light housing for inspection and/or replacement. It just snaps in if I recall correctly.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I just wanted to say that, bizarrely, this helped me too. Apparently, one of my LED bulb replacements failed in a bad way and the car shut off power to the license plate lights until I replaced it. I ended up sticking incandescent bulbs back in for the time being, and had to use my Durametric to reset the rear module to bring the lights back on.
