Steering wheel upgrade to paddle shifters, need help!

I have a 2009 C2 with PKD. It has the basic push button steering wheel. I want to upgrade to the PDK wheel with paddle shifters. I have done some research and found out it will fit. Only question is do I need the new wheel programmed?. My car does not have sport crono and no launch control. Will the new wheel still work? Any help appreciated.

I did this a couple of months back on my 09 997.2 PDK.
I ordered from Suncoast and they have the correct part number on their site for your specific vehicle. Zero fault codes and zero programming required. 15 minute job if you watch the YouTube DIY's first.

Note that 09 models do not support the paddle wheels with the illuminated SPORT/SPORT PLUS letters. It may be possible by adding a module or harness, but I am doubtful as my research on the subject yielded nothing.

mkoenigsheim is infamous around these parts
researched this myself last week:

The Porsche workshop manual states that the 09 models don't support the lights on the sport design wheel but several users have changed the PIWIS programming as per the 2010 car instructions and the lights work fine - not sure about the launch control light her -unconfirmed.

@Izzycab - Porsche makes 2 wheels - 1 with and one without the buttons depending on the age and spec of your car:

997 044 402 16 ... - wheel with no lights
997 044 402 17 ... - wheel with lights

... indicates the final 3 characters stipulate leather colour choice.

see link to UK site where the 2009 lights/no lights discussion is held:

Okay why don't you just buy the Techart paddles and install them on the wheel you already have?

i guess thats a solution - but lot of people want the new wheel because it looks better...
plus the entire wheel is not much more expensive than the 2 paddles.
if you want multimedia and paddles, techart is the only solution
