A crook is cruising the forum.
Well guys, it looks like there is a crook cruising the forums.
A gentleman contacted me about my 997S.
He made all these elaborate plans to buy the car. He had me convinced he was legitimate until he was supposed to pick up the car this weekend. He was supposed to get it Saturday, then because of the weather, he would get it today.
He sent me another e-mail today telling me he didnt want to get the car again because of the weather.
Now the good part, he wants to send me a check to pay for shipping the car to him and oh by the way, the check will be for more than the shipping and just send him back the difference. I sent him back an e-mail telling him to kiss off. I sent him another e-mail to let him know I would be warning everyone, now I see his e-mail is no longer valid.
Sellers BEWARE!

I've bought or sold four or five cars using the net. Maybe Brian E did this already, but a good tool is (although not foolproof) to insist on a PHONE conversation with the other individual after maximum 2 or 3 emails have been exchanged.
I weeded out two or three scam artists this way who, up until I wanted to talk by phone, used email alone claiming they wanted to buy, asking for my address, ready to move forward, etc. (maybe computer IP addresses can't be detected by law enforcement anymore?).
Again, no guarantee--as disposable/stolen SIM cards can negate the ability to trace a caller too, but a lot of con artists out there prefer greater anonymity of a computer. Brian E did you try an ad on Rennlist, I sold a 997S after about 2 weeks that way.

Also, to add on to BBGT2's comment, do not confuse a certified bank check with a certified check! A certified check is simply a personal check that has been stamped by the institution.
I had a purchase last week that went south, the seller handled it propperly, but had he not I confirmed with my bank that I could stop payment on the cashiers check.
