Christmas Trip?????

So asking everyones opinion. The wife wants to take a Christmas trip thee weekend before Christmas the trip is 400 miles one way. Im not sure if I want to put those miles on my 911. Its not a question if the car wont make it, its just basically throwing a 1000 miles on it in 3 days for the trip there and back. Do you guys think about those things or do you just go? Im looking for some advise here guys.

So if I get this right, you most likely dreamed of owning a Porsche but not driving a Porsche.

If it has nothing to do with reliability or road conditions and more to do with loss value due to mileage, do yourself a favor and sell now to someone who will want to drive it.

Most owners look for excuses to drive the car, not excuses to justify leaving it parked.

Thank you for that reply Steph1. I agree with you, but being a BMW owner for 20+ years and this is my first 911, I wasn't sure it my thinking of driving it on the trip was the correct mindset. I have always said there isn't one car manufacturer that ever design their cars to have it sit in a garage and only driven on pretty Saturday's around noon!

Drive it. Why keep the miles low for the next owner.

FYI, there is a guy in Philly on the other forum who DD's
his 997.2 and has > 130.5k miles and going strong.
My C2S cab is a DD with 78K miles, now shod with
Sotto Zeroes for winter. I can't imagine not driving it.
Your loss if you don't!

I wouldn’t care about putting on the miles, as I agree with the sentiment of the other posters here- you should drive the car and enjoy it, not make it a garage queen and let the next owner get all the fun out of it. However, for me, if the trip involved having to drive and park it a lot in a city where I couldn’t really enjoy it, or where I had to worry about where to park, I’d rather take another one of my cars so that I’d not have to think about that other stuff.

If you’re enjoying your 911 otherwise, like tracking it or taking it for long drives on weekends anyway, then skipping a weekend of driving it for a road trip in another car might make sense.

Don't get me wrong, had a 4 hour (8 hours total) drive last summer and chose to take the Q5. But the car was basically new to me, and I still had preventative maintenance to do before being comfortable and have peace of mind for that trip.

So if you have such justifiable reason, then fine. But by all means don't ever let the loss value due to mileage be a factor in your brainstorming. Maybe I see myself a little in your questioning and I ain't proud of that.

It began with a dream, and now is time to live it. Unfortunately for me that means storing the car for winter months.... Not quite how I plan to live that dream, but come spring.....

Cheers.

I talked to a local guy here with a 2013 997 Turbos S as a daily and agrees, DRIVE THE CAR, you will regret every second you are not driving it on the trip!

800+ miles done! In the rain, fog and sun. She was a dirty mess when we got back yesterday. But doing 110 on the tollway and 95 through the hill country in Texas made all the miles great. Thank everyone for making me realize WHY i bought a 99 in the first place and that was the DRIVE!
