Suggestions for improving ride quality
I have a 2005 C2S Cab 6-speed with PASM and about 53K miles on it. I love the car but actually miss the ride quality I had on my '86 TurboLook Cab. I'm 81 years of age and no longer autocross or drive as aggressively as I used to. I'm wondering if the car's shocks have actually deteriorated or if it's just me. I've owned the car for about 10 years and I haven't noticed any sudden deterioration, but it does seem like the ride quality is not what it used to be. It feels too firm over minor potholes and on poor road surfaces but seems to be okay on smoother surfaces. It definitely is not floaty or too soft on any surface. So I'm wondering what the typical oem (I think that's what's on the car) shock and strut life is on the car and what I might do to make it a bit softer without compromising unduly on handling. All thoughts and suggestions very much appreciated.
Thanks for suggestions. The tires are ~ 10 years old so that well could be the problem. I'll try the pressures you suggest first.
At 10 years old, it's the tires. You rally shouldn't be running tires older than about 6 years on a vwgible with the performance capabilities of a Porsche.
If you haven't purchased your new tires yet, I find the MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 4 S to be more comfortable.

Purchase the DSC Sport Controller. It replaces the brain of the PASM unit. It is a plug and play install. The unit is located in the passenger footwell. Easy to swap out...2-3 minutes. Since you have 997.1 you will need to buy the accelerometer which gets wired behind your stereo. It is a game changer. Makes the ride far more supple. Plenty of reviews on Youtube and over at Rennlist.
