What's the best kind of Tint? Any problems Tinting?
I'm considering getting an aftermarket tint on my 997 and would like to hear from people who've had this done and what brands/processes are best to use.
Not looking for limo tint but something 4-5 shades lighter. Any input is appreciated. |
I've always tinted my whips, except for my latest...IMO tint is becoming passe and it looks nicer without it, you can see the interior mods and sportchrono stopwatch from the sides or thru the back; plus (in CA) its one less potential reason to get pulled over by the man.

Ok. So what did you use when you were tinting? I don't want a really deep tint just something a couple of notches from factory. Actually don't want it for looks, I want it to tone down the sun.

Most brands will divide the tint into light, med, dark, and limo; some will assign % sun blocked as well. Smoke works well and looks clean and subtle, reflective, bronze, blue etc are less common and IMO look bad - would stick to smoke. Whatever level of tint you get it's darker than you think when comes time to parking at night in a poorly lit area. even the lightest tint works well for sun. If not going for the look I often use light all the way around or medium on the back three and light on the two up front windows.

Thanks for the info.

5% Limo tint for me :)
and lighter tint on the windshield... stealth look :) haha... Honestly down here you MUST tint your windows for security purposes other than "for the looks". |

I did a 35%-level tint from Llumar, also put clear tint on the front (for heat reduction).
No problems, it changes the look of the car a bit. Sometimes I would have rather gone with something a bit lighter. I can see perfectly at night, and no gps problems. |

The only problem I had with my limo tint, is those damn dots surrounding the perimeter of the windows. It makes my tint look uneven and blotchy. Anyone else have this problem?

Llumar for sure..
i currently have 5% all around (limo, some would call 95%) and 50% on the entire front.. TINT is a must to keep people from seeing you and seeing whats inside. on a sunny florida day.. windows and top up you can stand right on the glass and not even see me.. never a ticket yet.. floridas not too bad on that tho. and the TINT is great considering its on my entire front window and im yet to have a problem (hazing/bubbles/blurryness/etc) |

i have dot matrix all around.. didnt shave or glue.. idk what my tint guy did but its PERFECT. even the back where most people have problems.. AutoAudio in Palm Harbor.. did mine. they have a cheap shop and do crappy audio installs but for tint thats where i go. (not a good sounding reference i know but they do amazing work)

I have heard about people painting them or covering them with vinyl .. haven't seen either in real life. It was annoying at first, I have gotten used to it now.
