I've heard some customers getting CEL code after installing the K&N intake. Not being bias here, I have EVO V flow on my car and i shall say that the sound is intoxicating above 5k RPM.

Evo

Not for horsepower per se, but the sound. I had one on my 996 before I got it supercharged. I miss that induction roar.

bunch of BS...these cold air intakes or filter offer no HP gains what so ever. I hang right with many 997S with cold air intakes, special filters, open exhaust and so forth on the long straits at Sebring. It take a lot of $$$ to improve on the stock 997S.

Now with that said I did put in a BMC air filter just so I can have a clean filter all the time by washing and LIGHTLY re-oiling it. I also put on Fabspeed mufflers for the sound and so I can hear the revs and know when to shift with out looking at the RPM gauge at the track.

I got the K&N CAI 8k miles later, no CEL, just know that if you get it to remove excess oil from the filter and you are good to go.

Even if the EVO doesn't give you any HP gains .. the sounds alone is worth the price. It really bring the exhaust to life (especially PSE).

it looks like the one for 997S 3.8 but I don't know if it's same or not?

I'd avoid any oiled filter altogether. Even if you lightly oil, the oil will end up in the MAF and those that have had a fouled MAF have had to replace it. On my M3 I had a CAI with an oiled filter that I was very careful with -- and it eventually fouled. Fortunately with the M3, I could use MAF cleaner and avoid an expensive replacement.

I researched the heck out of mods for my track-oriented 997S and stuck with just AWE headers, cats, and mufflers. I might, in the future, consider software -- but I'm in no hurry because this car is extremely potent right out of the box, and the AWE set-up really provided big gains for me (lower weight, more HP / TQ, more responsive, better sound at track speed with helmet on, etc.).

So although I'd love to replace the intake, I am not convinced of any upside and only see the downside on the units you mention. The OEM X51 intake excites me, but it doesn't represent good value (expensive for nominal gain).

For the money, looks and sound .I think the K&N is the way to go, I am sure it will add great sound coming out of my Porsche sport exhaust.
