Does This Fit 6Speed's Definition of American Muscle?
My first REAL car when I was able to drive was the exact car except it was the emerald green but looked identical. Why would you ask if its a muscle car, don't you know? I love it! What is a car like that worth you think?
Thanks for the warm welcome.
These big bodied Mustangs are not loved by everyone. Couple that with the horrendous color combination, and you can understand why I asked the question. Those were the days of Grabber Lime, Panther Pink, Curious Yellow, etc. I probably could have located a car with a more acceptable color scheme, but that would kind of be missing the point.
By 1972, emissions regs. and the insurance industry were killing the musclecar. This one came from the factory with 8.5:1 compression, a '71 cam that was installed 4 degrees retarded and a 2 barrel carb! When I rebuilt it, I used Aussie heads (closed chamber, small ports), a Comp. Cams 260H, (straight up of course) and the aforementioned four barrel carb and intake. The FMX got a shift kit and converter and the 3:50 Traction Loc rear was gone through, but left alone. I kept the factory exhaust manifolds for a stock appearance, but I'm running them through 2 1/2 inch duals and Flowmaster 40s.
I've never had it on a dyno or on the track, but my G-tech says it runs 13:40s pretty consistently. I wasn't looking for 1,200 horsepower. I just didn't want to be dusted off by that Hyundai Sonata at the traffic light.
What's it worth? I don't know. I know there's a lot more in it than I could hope to get for it.
Thanks again for the welcome. If I ever start making progress, I'll show you what I'm building now.
