2014 Corvette Stingray
I just got back from Detroit today with pics from the show, and the C7 'Vette looks pretty good. I'm not really a Corvette guy, but for fans, the C7 shouldn't disappoint-here are some shots from a crowded view-and here's the NSX Concept-looks a bit too Sci Fi for me with all its sharp lines and edges-of course, it's still in concept form-and excuse in advance my amateur picture-taking skills:
Acura, if they use this design, completely miss what they were able to do with the first NSX. There is nothing exciting or bold about that design. Are their designers living on a daily diet of prozac, valium and kaopectate??? The first NSX design came out of no where relative to their fleet back in 1990 and really stood out at that time in the market. This concept of the NSX looks like a sporty rehash of their ugly, boring brand.
I did some really rough photoshop to "FIX" the bits I dislike the most. The car is just too fussy, trying too hard. Thats why the grey car looks better, it clashes less with the black.
Real car on left, Photoshop on the right
On this image I got rid of the front wings on the splitter, the clack plastic hood scoop and the vents in the rear quaters.

I got rid of the Camaro lights and put some round lights on here. Again, very badly photoshopped, but you can see it immediately feels more like a Vette. I also got rid of the shiny exhausts.

In this last one I stripped out that pointless red band on the passenger side. It relates to nothing in the interior. Without it the instrument pod is the focus. It still reminds me of the R8.

I'd love to see someone else's thoughts on what would make it look much better.

I think I'm easier to please...
Looks like there is going to be a SIGNIFICANT price increase!

I like pretty much everything about the C7. Sure, you can try to change signature details to make it look more "retro". I wouldn't, and obviously that isn't going to happen. That is exactly why I like this design, because they went in a fairly new direction. The fact that they kept most of the mechanicals old school is also a plus. It means the purchase price will be low, upgrade costs will be low, maintenance and service costs will be low, and the DIY factor will still be high. Everything they changed (interior especially) has addressed the majority of common owner criticisms.
****, I said I'd never own another goV Motors car. If the rear grows on me enough, I will be eating my words
The article said a big reason they moved away from the round headlights (which the design team refer to as RV lights) has to with being able to better utilize the the new LED lights.
I also did not like the lip on the front. The magazine said this was a pedestrian safety feature (a cow catcher if you will) and also helped with stability.
Ok, I've already stated my opinion earlier but I've got to change my comment. I'm starting to like this C7. I know that the Corvette, like all other cars, has got to evolve in order to be better/different. This is no exception. Although I still love my C5 Z06, I can't wait to see what a C7 Z will offer. Of course it will have to be in black.
The real issue here is when to expect the Z06 equivalent. That is the real version. This first base model is just the teaser (to me). I mean, if you can get that much car for so little, imagine what the next step up will bring...
