Stupid question: Suspension "tubes" on 997TT

Folks-

A friend with a black 997tt hit another car from behind at about 5 mph. One of the problems, including his caved in boot lid (I think he slid under the car in front of him), was that they found very light tubes in the rear suspension that were crushed, instead of recoliable shocks.

I am not a mechanic, I have raced Porsches for 20 years, but never have seen such an item, dos anyone know what I am talking about?

Thanks in advance - Gerry

I don't know how any of the rear suspension could get hurt if he hit the car in front of him.

Extremespeed-

Like shocks, they respond to physical energy transfer as low as 3-5 mph.

Cheers - Gerry

The only thing I can think of that could be affected by a front impact is the coolant and a/c lines that run from the front radiators/condensors to the engine. If I had a picture or better discription of the location. I might be able to help you better.
