DIY: Brake Pads/Rotors

I apologize in advance, I know there is a tech section, but it looks almost vacant there so I figured I'd throw it in the 997TT section.

Im looking to do my own rear brake pads for starters, then fronts at some point, and probably rotor replacement down the line.

I havent worked on cars at all except for two weeks ago at a track event I got the chance to replace my dads rotor and brake pad on his M3, it was fun, and pretty simple with some guidance.

So my question is, what tools should I go out and buy, what socket wrench sizes, and is there anything I should watch out for that isn't exactly common knowledge?

Thanks for helping out a newb DIY guy

i believe on the porsche calipers, there is a clip retainer (as there are on all brembos) that needs to be removed and the pads can be removed.

if not, look at the sides of the calipers, and look for 2 bolts. these hold the calipers onto the carrier, which holds the caliper onto the rotor.

there should be 2 bolts (allen head or hex) that are on the center hub of the rotor. remove those to remove the rotor from the hub.

this is coming from an alcon bbk on a M3, but I am sure it is similar.

there are a BUNCH of DIY over on rennlist.com

good luck! also, sweet wheels.

my instructions are a bit general, but most brakes go about that way.

I've done this, a 997tt is a bit harder than a 996 to do. Check renntech.
