I came across a pair of Pirelli PZero's, but they have a production date in late 2004. They're new and have never been mounted.

I know tires age over time. Have these reach or exceeded their shelf life?

Personally, I wouldn't for high speed or track use. Low speed around town I would if the price was right. The storage conditions they have been in might effect the decision as well.

I would normally not even consider this, but the tires are like 70% off tirerack's price.

Can you inspect them? I have a set of Pirelli from 2005 and they are fine. You need to look for discoloration or any sign they have been stored outside. The condition of the label can usually be a better indication than just the tire.
