I would think you would be better off with a big block...less expensive and more low end torque

Also about 200lbs heavier, unless you go with an aluminum block, but that won't be any cheaper than what one can build an LS7 for, or less expensive yet would be a stroked LS6 or LS2, for 402ci.
They make great low end torque if built properly.
And over 600 N/A crank hp if you want it.

OP, I have always thought about doing a nice GM pickup with an LS series engine.
I believe there are a few out there like that.

Not too heavy, 4wd for traction.
Depends how you are going to use the vehicle.

A friend of mine threw in a built LS2 in his trailblazer, that thing MOVES. Low 11s on the motor, built for spray.
