Powdercoat finish - is this acceptable?

Last year I ordered a custom set of forged wheels from one of the well known vendors. The wheels were powdercoated satin black but arrived with flaws in the finish.

To their credit, the vendor attempted to address the issue at their cost. However, we are now on the third recoat and I'm starting to worry that they cannot achieve the level of quality I originally envisioned (and that we're compromising the structural integrity of the wheels with recoat after recoat).

The owner claims they use the same powdercoater as several other major wheel manufacturers and this is their best work. At the same time, he admits that they cannot generate an OEM level finish due to the large manufacturers having more sophisticated technology.

What do you guys think of the pictures below -- is this normal "variance" for a powdercoated finish? Are small dents, bubbling, runs and dirt specs just part of the custom process?

If it matters, these are $5,500 forged wheels.

Thanks in advance...

There are imperfections that should not be there. As a customer you should not care whether the manufacturer is large or small - it really isn't your problem. If they can't get it right and you aren't happy, they really should refund your money.

I am not a picky person, but if I spend $5500 for a set of wheels, I would not take that finish. I would ask for them to redo.

Care to share with us what wheels?
