Turbos bad?

Hey all! I started a thread last July about my car not running properly after upgrading from a EVT580 to a EVT700. I had some mixed parts (intercoolers/headers/intake) from another vendor and the Evoms VTG turbos & 700 tune. Car wasn't ever running right so I repurchased the "correct" parts through Evoms and then the car threw a connecting rod bearing and we've been doing an engine rebuild ever since. The engine is nearing completion and my shop noticed one of the turbos had some play in it.

My question is how long do you think these turbos should last? What kind of conditions would cause them to break down? They had been on the car for about 4-5,000 miles.

Thanks!

Sounds like a headache. I suspect you have 63.5/65mm modded vtgs? That means they were once rebuilt, could possibly be an error on their end. You have some good options to rebuild your turbos now that you have a built motor. What is your driving style and how much power do you want?

I have the modded VTGs from Evoms. All I've ever wanted was about 700 crank hp. Building the motor just seemed logical since it was opened up already. Besides, it actually would have cost the same or even slightly more to rebuild it with weaker stock OEM parts...

If I go for more power I'll have to invest in a better fuel system, new tune, etc. I'm really DONE with spending more money on this motor.

Well SeatleBum your turbos should not have any play in it, seems like who ever rebuilt them did not secure everything proper. Luckily EVOMS is "Anxious to see her back on the streets!". Send them right back for a new pair or refund.
