Good old-fashioned brawl about brands
Good old-fashioned brawl about brands
Let's be honest: Brand appeal did play a role in our purchasing decision, at least for some of us. In my case my short list included the following cars (due to my budget constraints and other factors): Nissan GT-R, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Audi R8 and 997.1TT. And the winner is ... you guessed it. How much the Porsche brand did influence my choice is what I am wondering.
Now, I am very interested in knowing how an average joe-997-turbo-owner ranks the various brands producing performance cars. I am talking about brands and not specific cars, although some brands are mainly defined by one car (i.e. Dodge Viper). Here is my ranking, what about yours?
1 - Ferrari
2 - Lamborghini
3 - Pagani
4 - Porsche
5 - McLaren
6 - Aston Martin
7 - BMW
8 - Audi
9 - Mercedes
10 - Nissan (GT-R)
11 - Mitsubishi (evo)
12 - Subaru (impreza, BRZ )
13 - Chevrolet (Corvette, Camaro -- hate the camaro --)
14 - Dodge (Viper)
Brands with no appeal to me that I am not able to rank:
- Jaguar, Bentley, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Cadillac (CTS-V), Mazda
Brands with some appeal or even a lot of appeal that I cannot rank:
- Bugatti, Lotus, Honda, Ford (Mustang), Renault Sport, WV (Golf GTI)
BTW, I am not Italian ...

For me to rank an order especially not having driven Buggatti, McLaren, and a few others may not be fair.
If strictly from a brand perspective
I'd put a Bentley above a lot if the cars even Pagani simply because its a drivable and realistic car.
Rolls Royce would certainly be at the top somewhere.
Ferrari and Lamborghini are probably interchangeable depending on the specific model.
Tough one for me to rank in an order

Agreed; tough to rank. I haven't driven a Buggatti or McLaren either and to be honest the Buggatti doesn't appeal to me at all.
I'd put Porsche as #1, Ferrari as #2 just for the 458, Lambo as #3 (LOVE the LP540-4), most of the others are muddled in there somewhere with Audi above the MB and BMW, and at the bottom the Aston (worst "supercar" I've ever driven) and then the Corvette.
I must say I was really surprised by how much I loved the MB SLS.

I'll say the the same two of my friends have said.
One is the owner of a 2009 GT2, and a Ferrari 599 GTO, and the other owns a 2009 GT2.
They both said and agreed that there is no better sport car than Porsche. And they drive them hard.
I agree, Ferrari is nice but for hard driving I'd always pick Porsche as # 1.
