On this '03 SL55, the customer came to us with the need to gain some traction to keep him in the action. To start the move in the correct direction, a Quaife Limited Slip Diff was installed to make sure the power was being put to the ground evenly. Also, the stock gears were retained so there wouldn't be any issues with the speedo reading incorrectly and also keep the normal day to day driving just as civil as it was when the SL came in.

The LSD
The Mercedes AMG V8 02MY-on Quaife ATB Helical LSD differential has many benefits over a standard open differential, including maximising traction and minimizing wheel spin, eliminating torque steer and snatching in front wheel drive cars compared to conventional LSD units, and a maintenance-free design which retains the standard oil lubrication. Unlike a conventional plate-style limited slip differential, the Quaife relies on gears rather than clutch plates for its operation. That means it is much smoother in operation.
