Water pump
Water pump
Today on the way to MaxRPM my local shop that works on my car to get a oil change. I started hearing a squealing noise like a belt, one stop light from his shop I see steam coming from the engine as the light was red. No overheating at all pull into the shop and antifreeze is leaking under the car. Put it on the lift, remove the belt and spin the water pump bearings shot. Pressurized the system was leaking from the pump. Was told its a few hour job, just thankful I was close to the shop when it let go and not on the road somewhere. 56k on my turbo, any one else had this happen to them ?
New water pump installed " Metal gasket ", belt and oil change , Back up and running good. After doing some research I found out this can turn into a bad deal if you don't change the pump right away. So much that some people do it as a preventative maint around 50 K.
As the impeller can break in pieces and do some damage to your motor, Something I was unaware of prior to this happening.
