Stay away? E63

Friend is considering a '10 E63 AMG with 53k miles on it. Carfax revealed a transmission service that required removing and replacing.

Is the tranny an issue with these? Should he avoid this specific car? The $ on it is ~$49k. It is apparently able to be certified from the dealer.

If the work was done by the dealer, which it likely was, I would not have an issue with it. An extended warranty would take the worry away. I saw a trans repair on an S-Class at the dealer where they had to hook the car up to the computers and Mercedes - in Germany - had to reprogram the trans. You know it's serious when the factory has to do it. Certified = go ahead. [at least in my mind]

A '10 model should still have warranty, no? If not, a good aftermarket policy would ease any concerns. The fact that a dealer did the work should give some confidence.
