Does anyone know of any standing mile events in Florida coming up?

 

Everglades jetport could possibly be a site but I doubt anything will be finalized until early next year.

 

I remember back in 2010 they had it 3 times that ear and now is not happening anymore... I wonder what happened?

 

That airfield has a long history of various government entities wanting to do some pretty stupid things.

The latest was to make it a mine and the environmentalists are now faced with a few courses of action.

1. To let the ridiculous mining idea go through which would further damage the everglades and further anger the very people who got the airport project shut down.

2. Tear it up and return it to the land which will also pollute almost as much as mining.

3. Leave it the way it is and use minimal budget to keep it open as an emergency field.

If I were in charge, I would simply leave it way it is and maybe work to get the areas around it to function as they did before the canals were dug by the army core of engineers.

It's really not that big and you could easily route the water around it.
