Steve Petty Motorsports (SPM) and Alcon Components ltd. (Alcon) have joined forces to introduce the ultimate line of direct replacement Big Brake Kits for the Audi B8/B8.5 chassis, featuring the Alcon S-groove rotor design previously only seen in race applications - all for an outstanding price point.



SPM Big Brake Kits will make use of the same Alcon Racing Heritage trusted in F1, World Rally Championship, NASCAR, Grand-Am, LMS and Japanese GT racing. The Alcon brand is world-renowned for providing ultimate braking performance solutions both on and off the track.


SPM is the first to bring Alcon’s latest technology, the S-groove rotor design, exclusively to the VW and Audi market in the USA.

Alcon Rotors:

Grooves in the surface of a brake disc for high-performance vehicles perform three basic function.

1. Increases initial friction between the disc and pads, producing more ‘bite’

2. Continuously refreshes the brake pad surface by removing debris from the pad

3. Prevents buildup of gas from the phenolics within the pads


The Alcon S-groove goes beyond the performance of the highly successful Alcon crescent grooves by further reducing disc distortion and improving pad to disc contact. The curved form of each S groove produces a longer edge than would otherwise be achieved if the grooves were straight. Also the Alcon S grooves overlap radially, which prevents grooving of the friction material

• The SPM two-piece floating disc system that allows for radial and axial thermal expansion, this expansion extends the service life of the rotor.




Alcon Calipers:

The Mono6 caliper designs call on Alcon’s years of experience designing Mono-bloc calipers for world-class race teams. Mono-bloc calipers are stiffer and lighter than 2-piece bolted together designs and so provide better pedal feel, and overall more consistent performance under the most arduous conditions.


Mono-6 calipers are configured with staggered piston sizes to ensure even pad wear and piston area optimized for each individual application. Internal pressure and dust seals provide piston protection while not having direct exposure to the environment, eliminating the inherent issues with dust boots found on other calipers.



SPM Hats, Brackets and Hardware:

SPM lightweight black anodized 6061 Aluminum hats are pre-assembled to the rotor using SPM’s fastening drive system specifically utilizing NAS hardware. We provide the brackets and all class 10.9 and 12.9 hardware required for installation.



Brake Pads:

SPM and Alcon have specifically chosen pin-mounted Ferodo DS-Performance pads, requiring low threshold pressure, providing quick pad retraction and low noise. Ferodo DS-Performance pads also offer strong cold performance for start up, low dust and are specially formulated for excellent resistance to fade at elevated temperatures to enhance your braking performance.



Stainless Steel Brake Lines:

Custom Goodridge G-Stop PTFE Stainless Steel braided lines manufactured to meet SPM’s length and fitting specifications.
