APR Upgrades for the SQ5 from GMP Performance
APR Upgrades for the SQ5 from GMP Performance
The SQ5 is an SUV with a powerful punch so APR wasted no time to create some upgrades to take it to the next level. With an available intake, ECU upgrade, and supercharger pulley, there's a whole new SQ5 to be unlocked.
Audi SQ5 APR 3.0 TFSI ECU Upgrade

APR is pleased to present the ultimate engine control unit (ECU) upgrade for the Audi SQ5 3.0 TFSI V6. APR’s ECU upgrade is available in octane-specific variations and is conveniently flashed to the vehicle’s factory ECU through the OBD-II port without any physical modification to the factory ECU.
The Continental SIMOS 8.5 engine management system is responsible for proper operation of the engine during constantly changing environmental and load conditions. With built in compensational data for environmental variables and varying load conditions, the factory ECU is far more complex and intelligent than units found in other vehicle makes and marques.
APR’s Calibration Engineers spent months calibrating the engine management system, including many hours of in-house chassis dyno development. With a thorough understanding of the ECU’s torque structure, APR’s Calibration Engineers properly increased engine load to produce more power and torque from idle to redline. APR’s ECU Upgrade increases supercharger boost pressure and optimizes cam timing, ignition timing, lambda and more to produce higher output. Using APR’s proprietary high-speed data logging suite, the calibration team closely monitored the effects of these changes to ensure a powerful ECU upgrade without derogating the engine’s drivability or reliability.
APR’s ECU Upgrade will provide an excellent leap in power and torque while retaining OEM knock control sensitivity and other built in safety features. The result is safely achieved power, optimized for various fuel grades found around the world. We call it Performance Without Compromise!
APR Stage I ECU Upgrade
The APR Stage I ECU Upgrade is designed to work without requiring other changes to the vehicle’s hardware. With the ECU Upgrade alone, APR’s Calibration Experts measured higher peak figures of 403 horsepower and 371 ft-lbs of torque with 93 AKI octane fuel. Large gains were seen throughout the power band, including an additional 50 horsepower and 43 ft-lbs of torque. Even higher figures were achieved using 100 AKI octane race fuel. The increase in power directly translates to an exceptionally quicker vehicle.
For those demanding more torque and power, The APR Supercharger Pulley Upgrade is the answer. Spinning the supercharger faster increases air flow allowing for higher boost levels and more power. The gain in torque is felt immediately, but the results are present across the entire powerband. Expect 419 horsepower 93 AKI octane fuel and 445 horsepower on 100 AKI octane race fuel! Software is included as a free upgrade for APR Stage I customers with the purchase of an APR Supercharger Pulley Upgrade.
APR’s ECU upgrade is the best power per dollar modification for the new 3.0 TFSI engine and takes the vehicle’s performance to similar levels typically reserved for higher output, sporty models, without pushing the limits. With factory-like smoothness and drivability, APR’s ECU upgrade will fill the void in an otherwise excellent vehicle.
Acceleration Enhancements:
Beyond power and torque enhancements, APR’s Calibration Engineers were able to increase the acceleration rate of the vehicle through other calibrations changes. Ignition delay is reduced resulting in a more responsive pedal without altering overall throttle sensitivity. Furthermore, drivability was greatly improved by reducing the throttle lag commonly noticed at slow speeds and while reapplying throttle after decelerating.
Increased Fuel Economy:
APR’s Calibration Engineers paid close attention to several parameters directly related to fuel economy, especially while cruising at highway speeds. Depending on driving style and fuel quality, better miles per gallon may be achieved!
Speed Limiter:
APR’s ECU upgrade increases the vehicle's top speed limiter for blistering sprints around the track or across the Autobahn without the speed limiter shutting down the fun!
Left Foot Braking / Brake Boosting:
APR's Left Foot Braking feature allows more control over the vehicle’s throttle. The factory equipped vehicle's throttle input is disabled while pressing the accelerator and brake at the same time. Left Foot Braking, a common motorsport driving technique, allows the driver complete control over the vehicle’s throttle and braking system, which may give the vehicle the edge it needs at the track. As is with all features APR adds to the ECU, this feature may be removed upon request.
APR 3.0 TFSI Supercharger Pulley Upgrade

Many enthusiasts coming from Audi’s history of turbocharged vehicles expected massive increases in torque, at lower RPMs, simply by adding an ECU Upgrade. Unlike turbochargers, roots style superchargers are positive displacement meaning they provide a fixed amount of air flow based on engine speed. On the 3.0TFSI Audi chose to use a bypass valve that bleeds off boost pressure when requested. Keeping the valve almost completely shut at lower RPMS allows them to make respectable torque, and, opening the valve at higher RPMs allows them to keep horsepower within their marketing goal. Consequently, the APR Stage I ECU upgrade provides a relatively low increase in torque but an exceptional increase in power. For those demanding more torque, The APR Supercharger Pulley Upgrade is the answer. Spinning the supercharger faster increases air flow and effectively doubles the low-end gains of Stage I. The gain in torque is felt immediately, but the results are present from beginning to end adding up to 80ft-lbs and 108 horsepower at all four wheels!
APR has chosen not to cut any corners and as such each APR Supercharger Pulley Upgrade Kit includes a new supercharger belt. Furthermore, all existing APR Stage I ECU Upgrade customers are entitled to a free APR Stage II+ ECU Upgrade required for proper functionality. Finally, every APR Pulley is E-Coated black for an OEM appearance.
The 3.0 TFSI uses an Eaton Twin Vortices Series (TVS) Roots-type Supercharger unit, which features a four-lobe rotor design to safely run at high operating speeds. APR's no stranger to the Eaton TVS1320 Supercharger Unit having spent several years developing a Stage III Supercharger System for the High Revving Audi RS4 and S5 4.2L FSI V8. Through the years, APR's Engineering Teams placed even greater speed demands on the TVS1320 than offered to the public with a flawless track record.
A balance of power and reliability is always a concern when going beyond what Audi delivers from the factory and APR's Engineering Teams use accelerated life testing both in house and through professional motorsport racing to ensure years of Performance Without Compromise.
Unlike turbochargers, superchargers boost pressure is nearly fixed in relation to engine speed. The factory supercharger unit features an electronically controlled bypass valve which bleeds off boost pressure when mass airflow and load levels increase past the power requirements set from the factory. The APR ECU upgrade prevents boost from bleeding back into the intake system, resulting in higher boost levels. However, boost pressure is still limited by the size and the speed of the supercharger. The APR Supercharger Pulley Upgrade increases the RPM of the supercharger resulting in an increase of boost pressure all the way to redline. This results in torque you can feel off idle all the way to redline.
Audi SQ5 (B8) 3.0TFSI Carbon Fiber Stage 1 Air Intake
Audi SQ5 (B8) TFSI Carbon Fiber Stage 2 Cold Air Intake

Carbonio's latest carbon fiber intake for the 3.0 TFSI engine is a ram air design that completely separates the intake filter from the engine bay. Building from years of experience on and off the race track, Carbonio's and APR's engineering teams have spent countless hours developing a true cold air and ram air carbon fiber design that can be recreated affordably for the street performance enthusiast.
For many years professional motorsport organizations have suffered great expense to properly tune the air intake delivery system for turbocharged engines for use in endurance and sprint races where every last horsepower and pound feet of torque can make the difference in position when crossing the finish line. Historically these designs have proven to be the most efficient and powerful although the most expensive to produce.
Aftermarket performance companies have attempted to capitalize on these designs however the cost restraints have typically resulted in compromise and deviation from the true engineering principles associated with motorsport accomplishment. Don't be fooled by catch phrases and tag lines alluding to a new intake technology or special design characteristic. You won't see any of these gimmicks installed on race cars at the Nurburgring.
Carbonio and APR have gone even further to maintain all oem specifications necessary to integrate cohesively with an otherwise stock engine to avoid raising eyebrows at the dealership. Flexibility was another characteristic of Carbonio's and APR's design whereas the new TFSI intake is also suitable for Stage 1 and Stage 2 modified engines all the way up to future supercharger upgrades.
Constructed of aerospace grade carbon fiber and designed to remove intake restriction, APR’s Carbonio intake system provides smoother transitional airflow, increased air velocity, superior insulation of the incoming air to reduce intake air temperatures and a larger volume of available air to aid throttle response.
Smooth and Direct Air Flow
The OEM intake system vents some of the incoming air into the engine bay and takes several twists and turns before the air ever reaches the supercharger. The Carbono intake system simplifies the intake system by directing all incoming air directly at the filter.
Modular Design
The OEM intake system includes resonators in the hose connecting the air box to the throttle body designed to reduce supercharger whine. The APR Carbonio intake system in Stage I form replaces the factory air box and filter, and will deliver roughly 11 AWHP over stock. The Stage II back pipe when combined with the Stage I Air box will increase power further to around 15 AWHP and will slightly increase intake supercharger whine.
Benefits of the Carbonio CAI System include:
+Increased Horsepower and Torque
+Improved Throttle Response
+Improved Fuel Economy
+Enhanced Engine Volumetric Efficiency
+Enhanced Sound of Supercharger
+Installs in an Hour (does not require bumper or headlight removal)
+Removes OEM intake snorkel which can collapse under boost
+Maintains Clean Appearance by Retaining Factory Engine Covers
+Maintains All Factory Emissions Components
+Fits Both Manual and Automatic Transmissions
+Fully Compatible and Complimentary, with APR Software and Exhaust systems
+Maintains the Thermostatically Controlled OEM +Flap Valve Assembly from the Factory Air box
+Modular Design Allows for Performance Gains in Stages and the Ability to Keep the Factory Intake Resonators
