How difficult to install test pipe on an aftermarket exhaust?

So we've all heard the horror stories of installing an exhaust on a 997 Turbo. I already have my Kline exhaust installed (my mechanic wanted to kill me), but i want a little more sound and some turbo spool. How difficult would it be to remove the 100 cell cats and replace with test pipes?

Depends on how the exhaust was made.. Are the cats separate? On my ST exhaust the cats are welded to the angled pipes to the center muffler, so to change them out would require removing the exhaust.

Really all depends on the exhaust..

Not too bad at all. I got a set of straight pipes from Sam and it took maybe an hour or so to install them. The kline cats are small compared to stock so you can access the bolts no problem and the test pipes are even easier. since it was apart recently you should have no issues with stuck hardware. Kline is all bolt together so no slip joints to deal with.

do you have a tune? removing the cats may cause a cel if the rear o2 sensors arent turned off. if you have to pass emissions then both visual and ecu plug in may be an issue with no cats. just tossing that out there

If your mechanic was complaining about an exhaust then I'm not sure what find of mechanic he is. As with any after market parts, some outside the box approach is usually a skill that's required. Parts changers usually have no clue when it comes to making things work. Case in point: ipd install. 70% of them are installed wrong becauSe mechanics don't think outside the box.
Good luck
Markski

It would be a pretty straight forward install, you should be able to sneak them out of there without too much trouble. Our systems for example are build with V-Bands exiting the cat and of course a 4 bolt on the turbo side for exactly this reason. I have a few customers that have a modular system that they switch catbypass pipes in for the 200 cell's when they are headed to the track!

Good luck with it, I don't see your mechanic having an issue with it!
