service indicator not changing

ETA: the situation is a bit different than I originally thought...please see my post #3

Last December, I reset the service indicator on my 997.2TTS after doing an oil change. Today, I checked the service info because I was surprised the "service now" indicator hadn't come on. To my surprise (and dismay), it said 18000 miles or 367 days until next service. Has anyone seen this, know why it happened, or how to fix it? AFAIK, 18000 is never the correct interval for this vehicle.

Not sure how you reset it, but if it is not working, my assumption would be that the reset was not done properly, or otherwise caused the system to not track. Here is the documented procedure to reset. MAy have you dealer do it if you are having issues.

DC

PIWIS Tester 9718

NOTE: If the engine oil is replaced during maintenance work, the service interval must be reset.
Start the PIWIS Tester 9718 and follow the instructions on the Tester
Select vehicle type, press >> and start the automatic control unit search.
Select the Instrument Cluster menu and press >>.
Select the Special Functions menu and press >>.
Select the Reset Service Interval display menu and press >>.
The messages Resetting Service Interval and Function completed successfully appear on the Tester.
Quit the menu, shut down the PIWIS Tester and disconnect it from the vehicle.

PIWIS Tester II 9818

NOTE: If the engine oil is replaced during maintenance work, the service interval must be reset.
Start the Tester and follow the instructions on the Tester
Select Vehicle Type, press F12, and start the automatic control unit search.
Select the menu Instrument Cluster, Maintenance/Repairs and press F12 to continue.
Select the Reset Service Interval menu and press F12.
Select the Model Year and press F12.
Select the Unit and press F12.
Select GT vehicle and press F12.
Check that -> 5. -> 6. and -> 7. are selected and press F12
The service interval is reset. Press F12 to exit.
Quit the menu, shut down the PIWIS Tester and disconnect it from the vehicle.

I meant to mention in my post that it was reset using Durametric, following their instructions.

I just remembered that I had a before/after picture from when I reset it. It turns out the situation is somewhat different from what I originally posted...

When it was reset, the indicator changed to service in 20000 miles/730 days. But that's not the right interval for this car (that just clicked with me now). I have driven just over 2000 miles since that point, and the number of days changed is correct. I'm inferring that the service indicator doesn't count down mile by mile, but rather using some other increment (500 miles, 1000 miles, etc.) and that is why I thought it wasn't counting down.

So now I guess my real question is -- why did the Durametric reset it to 20K/2 years and not 10K/1 year?

Not sure why it changed it, but could be that at one point the Porsche service interval was 2 years or 20K, believe it or not. Then they revised the schedule to be 1 year.

PS...Do not even try to get help from Durametric. They are useless. Never been able to help with ANY issue I have had. And rarely even respond, unless it is for a purchase when they are taking your money.

I recently posted a thread with the same issue. I used my Durametric to reset the service indicator, but it's not counting down. I emailed Durametric and they just told me to contact Porsche. Not helpful.
