Almost didn't get the baby out of storage.....
Well, like all other years, The 997TT went into storage for the winter. This year I decided to take the battery out..
Well today I went to take it home and first thing was to open the trunk. In the past when the battery dies, I would plug a cable into the accessory socket, hook up a booster battery and open the trunk. Never had a problem.
Today I hooked up the cable...nothing. then I realized I had the cable wired in reverse to the battery!! Oh, no..
I kept trying and then thought that the battery I had was not good. So I went and borrowed a booster setup. No difference. I stuck the key in the ignition but then it made no difference.
Next I downloaded the user manual and followed the emergency procedure using the fuse box and the booster setup but it didn't work. I figured I fried something.
Next I realized the key was in the ignition. But I couldn't get it out!!
So I followed the emergency procedure for a key stuck in the ignition.
Got the key out and then realized that the booster battery was pretty well dead.
Off to get some booster cables, followed the emergency procedure and....the trunk opened.
Moral of the story, you can't use the accessory jack if there is no battery in the car. The trunk will not open if the key is in the ignition.
I was envisioning that Porsche would have to come and take my car apart since there is no way it could be towed out of the garage...
What a day!

My friend sounds adventurous and stressful!
Glad it worked out for you, as I was feeling my stomach turn reading it as I just got my car from sleeping all winter and the battery was dead as well. My experience just needed booster cables.

Have had the same issues with my turbo. One of the worst designs by any car, except the first time this happened the key got stuck, I was in a major rush and I just left the key in the car as I was sooooooo pissed.
Glad it worked out in the end though.

Agreed! I had one for my 996T, but I lost it. I figured I wanted a LW battery in my 997 anyways like I had in my 996 and didn't want a good battery to go to waste. Before I parked my car I thought my battery was showing signs of death, so I figured no trickle and a perfect excuse to buy a LW battery.....nope after charge and 1.5hr drive it is still going strong!
