Tire Pressure Monitoring question - "Add Air" and erratic behavior
Guys --
My 2007 turbo TPMS system has been acting up a bit lately. A month ago the TPC light came on then subsequently shut off after driving for a bit. This has repeated a couple times since but since intermittent, I didn't bother investigating much. A couple days ago I got an "Add Pressure" message on the center display and upon verification with a gauge, tire pressures were fine (32 front and 39 rears). In addition, it appears like the car is having some difficulty actually getting readings from the sensors as sporadically there are no readings returning from the driver's side front and rear.
That all being said I've tried resetting, toggling summer tires, etc. The error keeps returning so I assumed I needed new sensors. Before ordering I checked battery life with my Durametric and came up with this:
Remaining Battery Life:
FL: 61 months
FR: 96 months
RL: 61 months
RR: 62 months
I didn't snap a pic but I believe the TPMS service date was in October 2007.
I also had one fault in the TPM module -- 800A (Wheel Electronics Rear Left)
Based on this I am wondering if my TPMS modules themselves are fine but there is a problem with the primary unit (near brake booster) or the antennas or something. Any ideas or other things I can check?
I might just need to find someone with a Durametric Pro and code this crap out altogether but I do appreciate having the TPMS system working just in case.

The batteries in these things are generally good for 5 years so that might be a cause. Mine was also doing the same thing (I have had all of them on the car for about 70 months). The symptoms seemed exactly as you describe. I finally put 39 fronts and 44 psi rears - as specified on my door plaque. The TPMS error went off. The pressures read correctly and after driving around for a bit (about 30 minutes) I brought the pressures down to my normal 35/39 and so far the TPMS has stopped acting up.
Thanks for the reply...I have inflated the tires more than I typically like and will see if that solves the problem...at least temporarily.
On another note, the batteries on my TPMS sensors all appear to have a lot of life left. I'd much rather they showed low so it would be easy to diagnose the problem. I am rethinking whether or not the "in service" date I saw was really Oct 2007. I'll have to double check that as well.
