I think I know the answer, but can anyone speak to the health of this rotor? I noticed these chips while changing pads.

Thanks!

Can you give example on which are front and back...also what track use and how many miles are on those rotors..seems it's about time you refurbished some of those rotors I believe that pitted holes should be no More than 2 mm long

This is the passenger rear. 2011 TTS w/36k miles. The other rotors look fine to me. I bought the car two years ago @25k (still under CPO), and in that time, I have done some AutoX and three track events. Nothing to serious. I just put new pads and fluid in, so I was hoping to get at least another 5-10k out of the rotors before having to replace - with steels of course.

I think you are seeing the effects of forgetting to turn off the traction control when tracking. The rear brakes really take a beating if you don't disable the system (during auto-X or road courses).

Agreed. It's entirely possible I forgot to turn TC off. But generally I always turn TC off. I don't do a lot of tacking/AutoX anymore, but in my younger years I did a fair amount, and got in the habit of turning TC off. Maybe I'm getting forgetful in my old age

My guess is that I didn't change the pad soon enough. What I'm really wondering is if I can get away with safely driving the car on the street (new pads installed) for the next couple of months before the car goes into storage for the winter. Next spring I will either replace with iron rotors or look into http://www.rebrake.de

Thanks for the comment!

I have seen them MUCH worse, you can easily get another 10k as long as its street miles
