Road Trip 2018
Road Trip 2018
You guys were great last year helping out with some great ideas.
Leaving next week Thursday for a 6 days on the road with my younger son.
Major destination is Shenandoah National Park. Last year we did Acadia and had a blast.
We are coming out of NY, and the plan is to head to Virginia, then Tennessee. Is there anything not to miss along the way.
Thanks !

You'll have a blast!
Last fall I did the following with my wife and child, in my M3 (before the 911 Turbo came along)
- started in Eastern PA stopover in Pittsburgh, PA and continued to Cincinnati, OH.
- unfortunately bad weather so didn't get to do the Cincinnati zoo, instead went across to Newport Aquarium in Newport, KY. Dinner in German town, at the best bier garden I've ever been too, well outside of Germany.
- proceeded to Louisville, KY for the best fried chicken I've ever had, and spent a few hours at a really good children's museum. Then continued down to Nashville, TN.
- visited ******* Opryland, it was in Nov, so they had Christmas all set up. Also did a day at the Nashville zoo.
- proceeded to Knoxville, TN and spent Thanksgiving at Dolly Parton's Dinner show in Smokey Mountain. Treat for my wife, as the next activity was all for me
well, son and I enjoyed it too.
- did a day trip to Tail of the Dragon/Cherohala Skyway and other roads in the loop. Made the mistake of taking my wife and son on the cruise, they got sick which took away from me fully enjoying the drive.
- moved on to Roanoke, VA then on the way home cruised through Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive. I was told to do the Luray Caverns, but didn't in the end, as I thought it might be too scary for my young son.
The above are just quick notes from memory. We did it in about 7-10 days.
I want to do it again! This time in the Porsche!!

Sounds like you had a great trip. I really enjoy being on the road, and my only stress as the contact I need to maintain with my office on a daily basis.
My wife would never enjoy anything over a leisurely drive. We drove from Italy to the South of France by way of a stop over in Monaco in a rented Peugeot. The roads are narrow, twisting and on the edge of a mountain (with the smallest guardrails you have ever seen) for a good part of the trip. Needless to say, it was a difficult drive for her to enjoy and I was on my best behavior. The views were spectacular as we drove along the cost in Monaco into the South of France.
Thanks for the post and Ideas. I fell in love with my Porsche all over again after last summers road trip. https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...note-pics.html
I had an 1988 M3 since new that I have since gotten rid of and I regret that every time I see one. It was not the fastest car, but it was one of the most fun, best handling cars I have driven for an old school sports car. At this point the 911 TTS fulfills my all needs, except for space. Road tripping with the wife and son is not possible in the 911 as he is 6'2" and I need the back seat for gear.
Looking forward to the trip. Here is my post from last years trip in case you decide to head north anytime soon for a great trip.
I'll post back after we get back.
