997tt Whirring Noise at low rpm / low speed

Hey guys, quick question. I am now thinking about buying a nice 07 TT, fairly low miles at just 40k mls done on it. Car is nice, everything seems fine, no bad noises on high load and boost, moves fine BUT... as I was driving it slowly in a traffic jam I noticed that above idle but at small load, below 2k rpm the car makes a strange whirring noise. It is as if something in the engine from the cabin side was rotating and touching other surface thus creating the whir/rattle sound. When more gas is added the sound seems to go away - or maybe becomes impossible to hear as more noises become evident all around at speed.

From extensive read some poeple say it is normal but I am not sure if I can describe it as marbles as most people do. More of something rotating in a very obvious way.

It is a tiptronic, if that may have anything to do with it. Never had any experience with tiptronic before that, I had a manual 996tt a few years back, been in other manual 996tt cars and my friend has a manual 997tt which does not seem to have that noise (but his is lous as f**k as it makes 800+ crank and had tons of items modded).

Any ideas?

If it were a MT transmission I would have said maybe LWFW or some other flywheel noise.

If you pop it in neutral does the sound change?

Yes, totally OK when revving it in neutral with no load.

Only in D, under small load, light acceleration, something seems to be whirring behind at some point, if it occurs and I keep it steady it can do it for extended amount of time at the same level of noise while at the same level of accelerator push. I really wish I had recorded it. One tech I managed to get to hop into the car with me while I had it out for an extended test drive heard it too but he could not really say what it was and even guessed that they may all be doing this but since most already have aftermarket exhausts, it may not be that obvious. But I do not really buy it to be honest.

I may try to check out another tiptronic car, the thing is it is like 120 miles from me. Plus if the other one does not do it, it still does not really help knowing what could be causing this and apart from this issue, the whole car is great so would prefer to stick to this one.

Could that be some sort of an IMS issue? It does seem to affect SOME Turbos too from what I've read.

NJB997 is infamous around these parts
Dry sump oil chain? Idle rattle sound from rear of car. If so, it is normal. Be sure you are running the correct oil viscosity.
