Three weeks ago I bought a 2017 Cayenne S E-Hybrid Platinum Edition, with 26k miles. Really enjoying the car.
A couple of questions about the EV section of the car for those with Hybrid experience. I installed the home charger on the garage wall, using the line-voltage pigtail (110V). I'm retired, so I don't have a daily commute. I primarily drive it around town to/from Post Office, supermarket, out to dinner, etc. I can usually make it around without fully depleting the battery, returning home and re-plugging it in. Full charge takes 6-8 hours/overnight, depending upon how empty the battery is. What an interesting experience to return home and have the display say I used NO gasoline!
1). Each morning the MFD says I have 14 miles' worth of battery power (although once it said 15). However, yesterday and again this morning the MFD said 12 miles (in both cases, the charger said it was full and all lights on the plug receptacle were dark). Is this a possible sign that the battery's capacity is starting to fade? As I said, the car has 26,000 miles and was built 42 months ago in June 2016.
2). Does it matter if the battery is fully empty or only half empty (6-7 miles) before plugging it in? Is there the old "battery memory" issue with the Porsche EV battery like the early cell phones had?
3). If I'm heading up to Seattle or some other 40-50 mile trip, I start in the default E-Power setting. It operates in hybrid mode once on the freeway and until the battery is drained. Then the gasoline powered motor takes full control. About a half hour before getting into the city I click on the E-Charge mode and watch the battery's capacity get filled up by the internal on-board charger, hopefully to 14 miles again so I can drive in full-electric mode on city streets, stop n go traffic and stop signs/stop lights. I read somewhere that E-Charge mode produces about a 15-20% reduction in full-gas mileage. So driving it in E-Charge full time doesn't make sense, so that's why I should wait until about 30 minutes before city traffic to turn it on (if I remember to do it). Does this make sense, have I got it figured out correctly?
Of course, the car is awesome. Very sporty power and handling. Plenty of power when both the gas power and electric boost kick in. Magazine reviews on the 2017 even claim it's slightly quicker than a full gas powered Cayenne S. Perhaps not as quick as my 2013 Cayenne GTS was, but quick enough on freeway ramps to catch up with just about anything.
Thanks in advance.

I have a 2016 S EHYBRID with 48K miles. The temperature has a significant impact on the battery capacity. After being fully charged, mine has ranged between 10 (close to o degree driving) and 17 miles (60 degree driving) depending on the recent temperature while driving. I think the car keeps some kind of running temperature average and includes that in the mileage calculation. So even if kept in a garage at 70 degrees F, if is is in the 30's outside while it is driven for a few days, the mileage calculation will result in a lower estimate. This is just my opinion after driving for 3 years . . .
