Bay Area, should i lower???

Hi all,

Serous question for anyone that has lowered your 997 Turbo, is it painful in the bay area?

Cosmetically it looks so much better and i'm sure adds some handling benefits (although not that bothered), but every petrol station i go in, stop for coffee, shops etc the ramps are terrible and despite being careful usually end up with scrapes etc.

Now i know the front splitter is cheap and replaceable, but keen to here how your experiences have been living with the car lower.
While we are at it what springs would you recommend?

Thanks in advance

Not sure about the Porsche, but I am no stranger to lowered cars in the Bay. I've driven our lowered RCF as well as a pretty low Supra all over with very little issues. Only issues I've had were driveways that are too steep, horrible roads and if you're going to drive around The City. East Bay is no problems and anything South of The City is good too.

For reference: I could fit a pack of cigarettes sideways under the Supra and the RCF isn't as low as the Supra.

Lowering it with adjustable springs can give you flexibility. If you take into account the cost of replacing a few splitters, then it pays for itself when compared to saving money by lowering it with fixed springs.

The front end of the 997TT extends out quite a bit. The splitter will take a beating. If you lower your car then I would suggest just buying an extra splitter and keeping it on hand for the inevitable learning curve of a lowered front end.

I lived in Dublin for 5 years and drove into SF with my 996TT all the time. I have it adjusted to the lowest setting I can with my H&R coilovers and I never had more than an occasional scrape of the front spoiler. I consider replacing the front spoiler a part of yearly maintenance anyway.

So you're worried about a lowered 997 Turbo in the SF Bay Area. That would be me and the concerns are real. I live in San Francisco and its truly a PITA in many areas. Especially since the roads are deteriorating at a faster rate that the repairs. And after the rainy season, you quickly find out which puddles are actually potholes filled with water. Fear not of the steep driveways and speed bumps because you can see it coming. And you can prepare for the airdam grinding.

I have a beater Toyota 4Runner that I use when I know there is a possibility of the roads being questionable. But there is no doubt that the 997 Turbo looks great with a tuned suspension. Just choose the proper setup so that you don't regret it.
