Ohlins Coilovers

Hi 6speed,
Anyone have any experience on adjusting the height on a 997 Turbo? or any 997 with Ohlins Road & Track? particularly the rear. I think these coilovers adjust differently than others. The damper, and height are separate from each other.
thanks in advance for the help!

I have them.

Any really good coil-over will have separate adjustments for spring preload and ride-height.

You use the collars at the bottom of the spring to set your bump/droop ratio,... and then adjust ride-height with the lowest collar in front, and by rotating the gold base of the rears (and locking in place with the locking collar).

I first figured out what the droop was by getting the car at rest and measureing the top of the wheel arch from the ground,.. then jacking up that end of the car until the tire was juuuust about to leave the ground, and measure again. That's my droop. Then the bump was what's left (say the droop was 50mm,.. and the shock has 80,.. so bump would be 30). But it isn't, as I'll get to below.

I initially followed the set-up instructions in the manual, which wants you to lower the front by 3/8" from stock, and the rear by 3/4".

I ended up going back to stock in ft, and down by just 3/8 in the rear.

The bump to droop ratio in front was terrible. With like 1" of bump travel and 2" of droop. I adjusted the spring pre-load up a bunch (raising the strut tube in the shock) to give more bump travel,.. and then lowered the front back down with the lowest locking collar (and loosening the pinch-bolt)..

I initially set the car up with 15 clicks out from full-stiff all around,.. but he rear has too much wiggle in it,.. so I went down to 13 clicks out.

The fronts never did get right. At 15 clicks out from full stiff, the front just went up and down over bumps,.. never "working" the suspension. But at 17 clicks out,.. I had bobble-head (where you get after-wiggles after a bump).

SO,.. I had the guy that sold the shocks to me take out some compression dampening in the fronts,.. and then ran them at 13 or 14 clicks out (so what would have been 13 out for rebound and 17+ for compression as they were delivered).

While the shock guy was in there, he found that there were limiting spacers in the shock,.. which limited the fronts to 70mm of travel (even though they're advertised as having 80mm). We took out a set of 10mm nylon (or Delrin?) spacers to get the full 80mm of travel. (This may not be advisable if you plan to run the car really low,.. as at some point the tires will hit the fenders)..
