Ross
My parents still have a 93 300SL -24V R129, We love it and its a classic for sure, the only problems that I can think of are electronic glitches with the widnows and faulyt window motors, otherwise its a Strong Car.
Thanks guys! They seem like solid cars, infact almost too solid. Low-milage ones seem pretty hard to find.. 150+K miles on many, and they seem to be in incredibly good shape. And even more difficult, they all seemed to be tricked out by some young twirp. I want mine kept classic.
I'd be willing to bet that the current SL won't last as long as the R129 has.

The R129 is symbolic car, Respected by many. Personally Ive I am in the market for one I would look for a 99-01 SL500 with Panaromic roof and AMG kit with 18" monoblock wheels.
i got one not long ago, and i love it
it now has exactly 160k km on the clock (100k miles)
really is a wonderful car in all aspects, i'm not sure where to start .. perhaps you can tell us what you want to know in specific?
before i got mine, i asked my dad because he owned one before and he said i should steer away from the ones with the hydraulic suspensions (ADS i believe it's called, Adaptive Damping System)
you will know if the car has it from the interior, the switch is located on the far left (to the left of the headlights switch)
mine is a 1993 model, black on beige
i agree with RPM, to get the hardtop on and off is a 2-man job and is something i don't look forward to because the thing is just too big (it's heavy, but not THAT heavy.. i think the size is more of an issue)
but hey, it'll all be worth it once you drive it with the top down!
