That is a great looking car. Not too surprising since there are a pretty significant amount of AM Vantage derivative styling (not a bad thing (obviously), but still need to call a spade a spade).

Though it will still lack some of the panache of an AM, that is a much better value than the Vantage. Very attractive, great sound (judging by the convertible), faster, more tech and $20-40k less.

Here's to hoping that AM steps up its game, particularly in light of the MB/AMG partnership soon, so that the premium price is more defensible - this is coming from someone that bought a gorgeous, brand new Vantage last year, so I think I'm reasonably qualified to levy a bit of criticism toward the marque. :)

I actually drove the V8S Ftype last week. In some ways it was very impressive, in others it was a bit of a let down.

Power: it does not feel as nearly as powerful as it is on paper. It may have a lot of power but it's also pretty heavy.

Sound: I know this will sound crazy, but the exhaust note is actually a lot quieter in the car than I was expecting. Perhaps excessive sound deadening is to blame, but even with the windows down it wasn't as loud as the aston, not even close. It's loud from the outside, but from inside its too quiet.

Transmission: by far the best auto I have driven on everything except downshifts. 8 gears is insane and up shifts blow astons sportshift out of the water.

Handling, quite sporty but rear end is way too tail happy

Interior: big jump up in sportiness of the interior, this is an ALL NEW Jag. It may very well be the car that saves Jag as a brand.

Overall: the aston vantage (even being slower) is still a MUCH better car and at a fraction of the cost. Your not missing anything. It's amazing ... For a Jag. And it's that last caveat that says it all.

I agree that the gearbox is pretty awesome for an automatic. I would still rather have my (6-speed manual) Vantage, though. Knowing I actually own an Aston Martin feels really special. It's like fulfilling a lifelong dream. A Jag would not have been a car I lusted after in my youth.

An Aston is cheaper than an F-Type? I think you have that backwards.

The F-Type coupe is a great looking car but the Aston is significantly better looking. I feel there is no comparison.

I haven't driven it, but the car looks great to me. IMO it now is the biggest competitor to the Vantage. I also hope it motivates AM to step up their game.

^^^Agree, but when you can get the F-type coupe (which is also a great looking, front-engined, V8, rear-wheel drive, sports GT) with 550 bhp, adjustable suspension, etc. for tens of thousands less than a V8V, you can see how potential buyers may be tempted.

New Jag F-type is $100k plus with options. A slightly used vantage can be had for significantly less. I know it's not fair to compare new vs used, but just saying it can be done.

Correct, it's not a fair comparison. You can also make the argument that it's wiser to go with a used V12V than a new V8V.

Drove the F-Type vert this summer. Both the V8 and V6. Nice car.
The coupe looks great!

I like the looks of the Jag, no problem there but I think it's still way too heavy (just like Astons). It should be sub 3000 lbs car...

I'm hoping that there is a design on the wall at the Jag studio. This particular rending shows a revised XJ (the big one) with details and styling queues borrowed from the F type.
While I like the other Jags from some angles, the big boy really needs some F love. That's a great looking sports car.

Meanwhile, I also hope that on a wall in Gaydon, there is a rendering of a very low, wide muscular beast more beautiful than anything ever. In the bottom corner is the word Vantage and over that word is a rubber stamp of the word APPROVED.

That's not a comparison... With your logic I can buy a Lamborghini Gallardo for less than a new F-Type or Vantage, so I should go with that. The car might be a 2006 but it can be done...
