What is your city and highway mpg?
I drive mostly city and have been averaging 10mpg. I guess I am a very bad SS1 driver.
What have other people getting in the city. Most of my driving is city so a lot of stop and go traffic. |
I get about 30 Smiles to the gallon in town and about 50 on the open road!hilarioushilarious

I get 13.5 in town, and about 23 on the highway (w/sports shift).

Gave up trying to drive consistently to get a reading. I get in, punch sport, and rip! This is not my mileage leader. I have a 335d for that, it's get 32mpg with the same torque!

While I'm not an owner...yet, I don't understand why a V8 Vantage should be so hard on gas when my 5.7 HEMI/6-speed-manual-equipped Challenger can get about 18 around town and 27-28 on the highway. The Vantage has considerably less frontal area, weight, displacement, etc., so...? I did read on another thread that AM's V8 injection does not completely cut off fuel flow when coasting, as does the HEMI's, but it just doesn't seem like that could account for anywhere near the difference between the two cars. :confused:

Aston has a relatively small engine vs the Corvette (4.3 L vs 5.7L), but gets 20-30% poorer MPG. You are right about not cutting off fuel flow, in fact it is just the opposite. When coasting down hill and you shift down to lower gears to hold the car back, the ECU actually feeds extra fuel to the engine, which also significantly reduces the braking effect. The short time you spend coasting doesn't affect MPG significantly--think instead of a constant 75mph on a flat Interstate and getting only about 21mpg. |
The miser I am has been able to achieve no greater than 25.3 mpg employing every trick I have acquired through the years. (the claimed 30 mpg for the F-type S is tempting unless you look at an am next to it) Normal driving 17.5 to 21 or two. One of my e-types was a 4.2 and would get 17.5mpg. I definitely believe grant's book when it states in the early Vantages fuel is used for cooling. BTW, if you don't drive in the really cold weather you are missing out on very perceivable bump in HP and mpg! My 25.3 came from leaving a warm garage with a full tank (topped off in garage) and driven on a trip in 26-42 degree weather.

bad gas mileage probably due to the low gears. there is no reason why the 1st gear has to be so low, and then, if it wasn't, we could have a 6th that spun 2500rpm at 80mph, vs 3000rpm for those long trips... Im sure I could get near 22 if I went 60mph for an hour or something, but that is almost impossible to do. :)

My Audi (3L engine, supercharged, 311HP, 8Speed) spins at 2,000 RPM at 85MPH. Point being that with a proper 6-speed gearing you could get down near 2,000 RPM at Cruise. (Audi Weighs 4,300lbs with driver and gets 27mpg at 70-75 mph.)
