db9 wont start
db9 wont start
hey guys
weird issue im having. been driving my 05 db9 regularly without issue, drove it home last night and parked it in the garage
this morning, it wouldnt turn on. i turn the key and all the lights, accessories, headlights, radio, etc turn on, but when i press the start button...nothing
not even a clicking sound. i hooked up a jump pack to the jump points under the hood and still nothing.
a bunch of error messages come up on the dash as well:
- engine system service urgent
- emission system service required
- gear pos display not avail
- reduced engine perform.
anyone have any idea what this might be?

I guessing one of two things here.
1. The park release cable might being jammed(even if you have not touched it)
2. You have a bad ground or loose ground for the ECM.
1. You can't fix unless u have a lift.
2. Look in the engine bay, on the firewall way up underneath near the bottom of the windsheild, and see if any of the ground points are loose

hello kevblah
is there any chance the battery disconnect button has been pushed?, i often do this when connecting battery conditioner , its next to the charge socket in the boot.
when i try to start it brings up all manner of error messages on the dash display "PATS error" "transmission fault" etc etc and strangely the temp gauge goes right up to hot
it might be worth pushing the yellow reset button which is under the right hand rear seat base , just pull it up its velcroed in you cant hurt it.
good luck

Might want to be a bit more informative in what issue you're having. This is a 4 year old thread
I am having the issue as described in this thread regarding not being able to start the vehicle. I am getting the same messages
-gear pos display not avail
-emission system service required
-reduced engine perform.
AMFixer had indicated that it could be a jammed park release cable or a bad or loose ground for the ECM?

Had this problem with my 6speed DB9. The problem was the sensor on the clutch pedal. The sensor that allows the car to start by indicating that the clutch is fully depressed. Just look under the dash and you will see wires going to the clutch pedal, all the way up where the clutch pedal pivots.
I corrected my loose wire and it was perfect after that. Just a faulty design in my opinion but a VERY easy thing to fix. I'm sure the dealer charges around $10,000 to take care of.
Sometime in the last decade or two, ignition system computers got an "upgrade" that monitors the voltage output of the battery before trying to start the car. However, the battery may have enough juice left in it to move the windows, seats, play and run electronic stuff, like a gps monitor, radio, windows, mirrors and seats. I suspect insufficient voltage in some cases can damage some delicate electronics and so they felt it necessary to prevent a low-voltage battery from accessing them.
Just sort of guessing on the "why" of it.... *headscratch*.

What year is the DB9 you are dealing with? Is it the key and button type start or the so called emotional control unit?
What comes to mind if everything seems to work as normal and it just will not crank is:
What comes to mind if everything seems to work as normal and it just will not crank is:
- The car does not know it is in Park: possibly an electrical issue with the buttons of the mechanical park release, there should be an indication on the dash what gear the car thinks it is in
- Something with the brake pedal switch: in my later model the ECU surround lights red when pressing the brake before starting, if it did not light when pressing the brake I would suspect the brake switch
