Aston...check.. what next
Dont get me wrong, I love and enjoy the aston. Its a fantastic car but am curious to know what others have moved on to after owning an Aston.
Financially I wont be looking at another car for approx 1-2 years but would like to have my sights set on something for the future.
I dont see much activity on the ferrari/lambo sections and thought I would post it here.
Leaning towards a Lambo. From my research the 07s esp in manual are a fast seller and high in demand and are comparable as far as maintenance is concerned with an Aston. I do find it a bit loud for my taste, and ultimately I would go with a black 430, but ferrari ownership costs frighten me.
I dont go by performance figures as my main incentive, more about the overall driving experience. Having a car that also is relatively manageable as far as ownership is considered is a main motivator (especially the finances - depreciation, maintenance etc)
Im seeing prices of approx 120-140k here in Canada.
Not sure an R8 really inspires me.

Not sure where you get your maintenance numbers from but repairs on a Lambo or Ferrari are comparable from everything I know. The manual will be cheaper because you don't have the E-gear/F1 parts but it still isn't cheap.
personally I'd go for a ferrari 430. YOu don't have to pull the motor to do the belts so servicing isn't horrendously worse than AM. Also tho I've been away from the ferrari scene for a few years. Parts costs probably aren't that much worse than a aston, and the plus is you have a lot of aftermarket parts sources for ferraris as opposed to astons.

Couple years ago I went from a V8V to a black 430 spider. Best move ever. The 430 is an all around thrilling car and quite reliable. Then traded for a 16M which is just phenomenal. So far in my Ferrari ownership, I've only performed annuals.
These cars are the only cars that feel so light that you don't feel like you're going fast at all at 100+ mph. Incredible engineering.

As far as DD capable. It depends. The Scud isn't but the 430 is a lot more friendly in that regard. The Scud sits too low and lacks creature comforts. It's also loud, wide, and has big doors that swing out far making it hard to park next to other cars if you are forced to. If I were to DD a Ferrari, I'd get a 599 or F12. They are much more DD friendly. The other thing to consider with DD is mileage. If you don't care at all about depreciation then you are fine but if you do Ferrari is not the right DD for you. Ferrari purchasers are very fickle about mileage and for some stupid reason most Ferrari's are never driven for this very reason.
I'd assume what I wrote above is the same for Lambo but I don't know since I don't own one and haven't seriously looked to understand the landscape.
Personally, I'd buy an Aston for an exotic DD. They are the perfect GT car. The Vantage variants are amazing and comfortable to drive all the time. They are also reliable. I drove my last Aston all the time and sold it with either 12 or 13k miles on it. For reference, we only put 8k miles a year on our Range Rover that we drive year round. The Aston I only drove during in the Spring, Summer, and Fall.

Depending on your personal situation, a lambo/ ferrari can be considered a DD as much as a Tank or oil tanker could be considered to be one.
I would have thought the only way for us Aston drivers is to Bentley? Lambo we need a skin head a gold chain and shorts that have strange color's maybe a hairy chest..... Ferraaarri well again it screams please look at me i was the kid that never completed school but despite that i still made a buk and yes those tities on my wife are not real.....
I moved on to Aston because I love the quite confident statement it exhumes it has nothing to prove,, driving with the Aston affords you to arrive almost unnoticed, and that is nice.
Unless your the type that needs a car to bolster your social standing? then I appreciate that you need the Italian thing.
Personally I like understated class and lets not forget Aston costs as much as many its competitor so one does not need to bow your head in the company of the fashion conscious (lambo / Ferrari)
was watching an old geezer trying to get into his red Ferrari at a shopping center the other day his (comb over grey hair all blown over his face in the wind) and battling to lower himself into this go cart was embarrassing!!!
In contrast had he been collected in his Bentley (same cash i think) and had the door simply opened he could have left with a touch of class, instead he left with all thinking what a dick head, just my 2 cents worth!

RossL calm down boet, if you think I have incorrectly described an Italian driver (read Lambo & Ferrari) then look again dont know where you stay so possibly my sentence is more related to my country? regarding what one drives i only drive an aston EVERY DAY on gravel roads too if needed! I sometimes use my Range Rover SC sport when I want to jet ski but my car is my car not like comb over king who uses his car on a Sunday!
No doubt an AM is a special car but FFS its just a car, some guys seem to think its a god like thing and yes when i was younger I could only afford a Ford and I drove it every day
trust i have cleared up the misunderstanding?

Hey Ross,
Could you please provide your insight on the following on the following
The forum was really my source of knowledge when it came to picking the aston. Just want to make sure I do my diligence when it comes time for the next car. I like having my sights set.

2. For a 430, go with 2007+. Most campaigns are already done on these cars and specifically the MK2 exhaust manifold.
3. I usually drive about 3-4k a year.
4. Keys and manuals need to be mint. All service records. More carbon the better though the "Challenge Grill" doesn't seem too highly sought after. The more traditional you are the more the car is desired and therefore worth. Rosso Corsa with natural leather interior is the most popular for example. I don't like red or brown interior
.5. Avoid cars with lots of owners. Makes them very hard to resell. Know the history or walk. No respray. People do it for rock chips and stuff but it devalues the car. Ferrari buyers are a PITA in general.
6. Make sure you get a car with all campaigns done and also make sure the exhaust manifold was addressed. It's a known issue that is only a warranty item if it fails. It's known as the MK2 exhaust manifold. Capristo made a bracket that allows the exhaust to move more fixing this issue. The stereo in these cars is horrendous so don't bother looking for one with the Bose upgrade. It's terrible terrible terrible. Try to get as stock as you can. Ferrari buyers are a PITA (as mentioned before) and if you have anything changed they will try to gouge you or walk.
The Fcar is the best car I have ever owned by a mile. I'm lucky enough to own a 991 C2S and a Scud and the 2 are no comparison. The Pcar is probably faster around a track but the Scud lights up my senses more and is unbelievable. If I could keep the car forever I would.
If you'd like to chat, PM me and I'll give you my number. I know a decent amount about the 430 and Scud. The 360 was ruled out on day 1.
the only thing I'd add is stick with the manual shift. On resale they're more desirable and certainly less prone to issues.
YOu absolutely have to have a pre purchase inspection by a ferrari specialist.
Ideally get a car that's had a recent service and even better if it's had the belt changes. I think the interval is still 3 years. Tho belt change is not the big deal it was on early transverse engined cars that had to have the engine out to replace the belts, it's still an expense.

1. 430 no question. Drive the 360 and then a 430 and you will not look back.

Having gone the Lambo route twice it is definitely worth getting on your bucket list, BUT do not was your time with an 04-08. Get the 09+ LP560. It is a completely different car and countless changes were made. It's basically a second generation. Not to mention the LPs are bulletproof reliable and have an all new drivetrain.
430s are slow by comparison to the LP. If you want a fair comparison the Bicolores LP550-2 are dead even with a brand new 458 to 160+ and for a tiny fraction of the cost. As far as value for the price the 2wd cars are the best deal (not to mention almost 250lbs lighter)
