2007 Vantage Handbrake Adjustment

Hi -

My parking brake light does not turn off regardless of whether the handbrake is enabled or not. I can see that the silver striker piece does not go down far enough to turn off the brake light warning indicator. I want to adjust the handbrake but not sure which one is the adjuster. I can see a big nut but it doesn't look like an adjuster nut. I have attached a picture. Can anyone tell me if A or B in the picture is the handbrake adjuster? Thank you.

Here's a pic from the parts manual showing handbrake assembly.

If like other cable adjustments, you should had two separate nuts to loosen to enable increasing or reducing slack on the cable.

Looking at the schematic I DON'T think the big nut is the adjuster.

also replied in the PH forum:

THe manual doesn't have a good pic of the area. I looked at mine as best I could, it appears to be the large nut(s) that's inline to each caliper, It actually looks like two nuts one that tightens on the other. YOu can't use a socket on this, it'd have to be open ended wrenches. If it adjusts like other cables, you should loosen one and tighten the other to take up tension.

I've circled it here. THe parts manual only shows one brake caliper(side) so it's kind of confusing. But you have the same two nuts at on each side coming out of the handbrake calipers.

My 2 cents anyway.

Pull the handbrake handle up somewhat. Then press the button on the end and while holding the button pull the handbrake up a little until it releases, continue to hold the button down, and push the handle into the down position really hard. Don't release the button until the handle is fully down. I hope that works.

I wanted to provide an update to this thread. I was able to adjust the parking brake properly so that the brake warning light goes away when handbrake is released. Hopefully - this may help other in the future with this similar issue. Thanks to all for pointing in the right direction.

I also wanted to add that I did not have to jack up the car nor remove the wheels. Adjustment was made with the car sitting firmly on the ground.

excellent, this will go in the FAQ thread. I'm impressed you were able to adjust it with on the ground, just no space to work in when I looked at it.

I think my passenger-side handbrake is sticking slightly. Any thoughts on whether a similar adjustment (though probably not 2 turns) might alleviate that?
