Let's hope we get a better one...
So this is the new AMG GT, the drivetrain of which will underpin the upcoming DB9 replacement and next Vantage. I think it looks like a Porsche Cayman shagged a Mazda Miata, and the resulting lovechild fell on its face. It's especially disappointing because I think the SLS was a gorgeous car - and the GT is replacing it. I'm hoping the AM designs are considerably better than this...

I could not have said it better. Thanks for your visual language.
Cheers Christian |
The design is going to be 100% aston... It's the underpinnings that matter. The technology going into this thing is absolutely phenomenal, and the engine is going to sound insane once astons exhaust department tunes it to their liking.
All great things for Aston Martin! ... Full speed ahead |
Packaging is still a concern.
And this is a 7-spd dual-clutch only, which means no manual transmission. |
From the picture of the dash, looks like rev limit is only at 7000. That's a bit disappointing. I personally like the drama of a high revving engine so I can ride the acceleration in gear longer. McLaren can get their twin turbo V8 to 8500.

I wouldn't read too much in to this ;)
AM aren't going to dump the VH platforms You have a hint of the interiors from the Vanquish MB are only 5% owners and a supplier, AM will still create their own designs to keep their value and identity |
I'm going with Viper father and some booze hazed decision making in Vegas where he ran into an old Miata girlfriend.
Mom's lines but dad's husky frame and puffy silhouette. Poor girl doesn't realize how homely she really is. I hope and pray that the lines and stance of the One-77 remain the DNA of the coming new bodies. As for the power? Make it fast, make it sound like an Aston Martin. That's all we ask. |
lol nice
I'm not worried about the power output - that'll be fine. What I'm worried about is what the Vantage in particular (DB9 to a lesser extent) has to lose. Not too many 'raw' sports cars out there anymore, especially not at this level. And let's hope they nail the exhaust noise! |
GT ---> Couldn't get much uglier if AMG tried. What a styling disaster!

Chrysler Crossfire ' s older brother.

^ Nailed it LOL.

Not impressed at all with the GT's looks. Nor will I be impressed if its engine is dropped -- unchanged but for electronics and exhaust -- into Astons. That'll ensure that I keep my V8V rather than buy a new one.
|
I've always loved the aesthetics of the vantage, my dream car for many years. But I quite like the GT and if you google it you'll find that quite many agree, which just goes to show different strokes for different folks. I like it so much it actually has me considering going non-manual...

It looks like so many pieces of other cars. Like something Hyundai would build. Not my cup of tea but they will certainly sell every one they make.
|
I'll go with a 911 dad humping a Viper mom for that cool looking mutt. But hey, gotta keep tossing out things for Hyundai to copy!
