Please don't let this happen here

I was over browsing the Audi forums as I'm considering replacing my DD with an RS5, and holy balls are there too many sponsor posts everywhere. I can count very few actual "posts", but tons of crap from sponsors even though there is clearly a vendor section. Unfortunately it really hides the unique knowledge 6speed members offer under a load of seemingly un-moderated spam.

I've also started to notice that a little more here recently as well. While it appears we're a more active forum anyways, do the "matchmaker matchmaker" and "piloti driving shoes" and (while I love Stuart...) porterfield posts need to be here in the main forum even though we have a vendor section that I'm sure we all check fairly frequently if there are new posts in it? I just don't want the AM main section to turn out like the Audi section... it hurt my eyes looking through those posts for anything meaningful. (link for the lazy: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/audi-51/)

Thoughts?

I'm thinking since this forum is for a really tiny segment for a limited niche car that it's relatively easy to navigate the forum without having to read specific threads.

Out of all of them, Velocity(Stuart), RSC, and Bamford Rose at least are the most relevant to our cars. The Piloti shoes advertising is a bit much. I don't understand why it's necessary to keep creating new threads every time they want too make an announcement. Hopefully they'll learn. Many of them post here for a little while and then realize that this is not necessarily their target market and drop off after a while.

Oh, I don't mind the BR post at all, and you're right that Stuart's is more relevant than the others. In all, I'm not bothered by any of it for now, I just don't want to see this turn in to what's happening in the Audi forum!

Even 6speed has this happening in a few sections. The wheels section is nothing but ads. I tried finding some info about wheels in there and it's nothing but ads - none of which target Astons (especially given the lack of options we have) and most are just pictures. Great if you're getting ideas but not if you've got limited options like we have.

Part of it is that some markets are far too saturated (wheels being a perfect example), so all of the companies are trying to stay up top and remain relevant in the minds of consumers. Again, not a problem for us. We have three main offerings in the AM section: VelocityAP, RSC, and now Bamford Rose. Our section has a couple dozen active members and TONS of "lurkers" that browse for info but never post or even register. So there's plenty of business for each of our sponsors, and hopefully the constant badgering won't be an issue like it is in some places.

Midwest,

I agree with above, the audi forums have thousands of owners potentially looking at them, and many many aftermarket suppliers for cool stuff, those more ads. A few thoughts on your post though...

First, if you really want RS5 info try audizine and a5oc, they both have dedicated rs5 sections instead of a general audi section. The rs5 sections are very similar to this board, small set of owners and the ads are not too bad, especially on a5oc.

Second, if you are looking for info on the rs5, send me a pm if you like. I have owned an rs5 for a year, use it as my daily driver, track it and have modified it with a few goodies from some of the big providers.

Last, I agree and love the 6speed AM board, good group of people, informative and love the posts from BR, vap and RSC along with all the other stuff. I could do without the ads, but same could be said for Facebook and that's "free" as well.

midwestamv8, I do not have enough posts to pm, would you please pm me your contact details? I am just outside St. Louis and would like to establish some contacts with the like-minded.

I apologize for going off topic.
Back on topic, a friend of mine has an RS5 with which he is very happy. He is planning to hold for another year or so before selling though.

Other British Cars on 6Speed is in the same boat. Was hoping to find F-type enthusiasts there, but primarily found ads from wheel and other vendors.

Just saw the Klassen wheels post on the main page now, too. Ironically, directly next to this thread. All that poster has done is to go *every* car sub-forum and post the same thing. Not in the classifieds mind you, but the main area. And what happens is, other vendors see his post and that it hasn't been removed, and then think it's okay, and do the same thing on the main page. Then, once someone one-ups their post, they post a new one to "bump" it to the top. Basically the only way to avoid this is to shut them down right when they do it. IMO, this and the other classified posts on the AM main page need to be deleted or moved before they spawn more crap.

karlfranz Oct 10, 2014 12:39 PM

I really don't understand why those posts aren't in the vendor classifieds area in three first place. I always thought that was the intent and why we aren't allowed to post there. Maybe we just need to report these. I think I'm going to start with the Klassen Wheels one and see what ChuckGT3 has to say.

karlfranz Oct 10, 2014 12:58 PM

Just as an fyi, I just got a reply from Chuck. He says says that vendors are allowed to post announcements for new products on the main forum as long as they don't include pricing info. Our option is to add the vendor to an ignore list if we don't want to see their posts.

Ran across your posts looking around. A Porsche 911 section guy here. Anyway, how does this ignore feature work and where is it? Would be very helpful. Some of these postings are pretty excessive.

Thanks.

I'm trying to figure that out myself at the moment. I know it can be done but I haven't found out where the option is yet. Cheers.
