Fixed rattle

I've seen some posts on here about Vantage SS 'transmission sounds' - like a pebble rattling in a coffee can - and noticed something similar on my '10 V8V shortly after purchase.

I thought it was exhaust related based on where the sound was coming from, but then I seemed to only notice it around 4200rpm and in 3rd gear so thought maybe it was transmission related.

Took it to the dealer and they found the issue was a loose heat exhaust screw that was prone to rattling with a cold engine, so thought I'd post that here for anyone with a similar situation. Screw tightened and the sound is now gone.

Thanks for the info!

I just had a heat shield on my 4Runner fixed. The rattle was terrible. Heat shield bolts are usually the first thing I look at with an under-car rattle. I think this is the first one I've heard of on a V8V, guess that means they're going to start showing their age soon :(

A rattle from the back of my 2005 DB9 turned out to be a broken ball & socket joint allowing the exhaust bypass valve to rattle backwards & forwards. A new joint solved the problem. I also put ceramic grease on the other joint to hopefully prevent breakage.

Hi , Sorry to revive an old thread. but what exactly is the broken ball & socket joint ? Do you have a picture or even better a part number ?
Many Thanxs

Always better to revive an old thread that is relevant to your issue than to create a new thread.

The OP hasn't been active on the forum since 6/17/2017...that's the risk reviving an old thread without checking available forum data first.

I think it will be part of the mechanism that operates the valves on the exhaust, they are attached to the silencer (muffler). If you look under the back of the car, you'll see them.

They aren't easy to change, they come as part of a whole new silencer. If they are causing a problem, the easiest fix is to find a way to hold the valves open and keep them open. Or closed, if you want to be quieter
