07 DB9 fuel door not popping open
 

I see were the V8V's have an issue and recall for, but what about DB9's. Lock releases, but the door does not pop up, anybody know what causes this?

Friction... (Between the gas flap door & body due to a mis-aligned flap)
When I get gas I simply ask the attendant to use my credit card to pry it open. Same issue with my 07 Vantage. I'll try to remember to have it adjusted when I bring my car in for its next service this spring.

Mine (V8V) was sticking too but the painted gas tank cover did not appear to be stuck or rubbing. Dealer ultimately replaced the actuator which was partially working but not moving enough. The work was covered 100% under the extended warranty.

Mine does not lock either, is that what yours did?

Mine sticks randomly on my 08 DB9. When you pushed the fuel door open button you could hear the actuator but the fuel door wouldn't spring open. I found that if I slide the fuel door gently toward the side of the car (picture that you are standing at the fuel door and you'll try to pull the closed door toward you) it would work. So now when I get gas if the door doesn't open when I push the button I grab the edge and slide the fuel door toward me a bit and then go back and hit the button again. It's almost like the fuel door needs to be offset in the fuel opening toward the side of the car as opposed to in the middle of the opening. So far (knock on wood) this has worked every time.

The DB9 common issue I've had is different than the V8V issues..

The DB9 has a stupid little rubber stopper that a spring rests against. When the actuator unlocks/opens, the spring pushes off this rubber stopper and allows enough lift for you to grab the lid...

Problem is this rubber stopper wears out or simply falls off and the spring doesn't have enough lift to pass the actuator when it closes, which just locks the lid closed again...the stopper is only sold with the whole fuel lid hinge assembly.

Sooo you either make your own rubber stopper and glue back in place, or drill and tap a small screw in replace of the rubber stopper..this screw allows the adjusting to open the lid to the perfect hight....there is a 3rd option and that's to replace the entire hinge with a new one that comes with this wonderful rubber stopper($600+)

Got the latch releasing now and the rubber stopper is there, but I do not see a spring. Where is the spring?

Here is a diagram of the fuel door and I do not see a spring, is it built into the fuel door itself?

Also, should the release actuator point be on the top or bottom?

Point being the long end of the release mechanism, as it is kind of knife shaped.

Spring plate is attached to #7 via a rivet on the bottom outward edge. Point you refer to should be on the bottom. (/)

Thank you, that is where I have it, think I am going to relocate the spring.

Well I fixed the lid not popping up, added a spring and covered it with a plastic nipple and so that is done.
But then I found out my actuator is bad, good news it is also used in BMW's, Jag's and Aston's, bad news is everywhere I looked the part is on back order.

For future reference search ' VDO 406.204/3/3' that is the part nbr VDO and BMW use and it is way cheaper than Jag and Aston.

Got a new actuator it cost half a century shipped, from Pelican parts.
I am happy now, no more using a credit card to open my gas lid.

I am having a problem with my DB9 Volante Fuel Filler Door.

I opened it yesterday to fuel the car and now it won’t stay closed.

When pressing the button inside the car, I can hear the actuator working. But the plunger that locks the door is not coming out after the button is released. I tried cleaning and applied a little lubricant but to no avail. I can take a small screwdriver and push the plunger in, I can feel the spring loaded mechanism, but does not come out past flush.

Mine is a 2007 model. Is it time to replace the cable mechanism? Or Actuator. How can I access it from the inside?
