Function of Push Button Dimmer Knob (US Spec)?

2008 V8V Roadster..

Does anyone know what the push function of the dimmer knob is suppose to accomplish other than locking in the settings? Or is that it? hilarious FYI, I am unable to turn the interior dome light off when either door is open (the map light buttons on the dash only turn the map light on and off with the door closed).. Thanks!

Everything you describe is normal behavior. Of course, if you leave the door open long enough (around five minutes) the lights will shut off in order to preserve the car's battery. The push function of the dimmer use to help avoid moving is position when turning the other lights on/off.

The push function?

That's the dash dimmer switch, how bright or how dim you want the dash lighting when the headlamp switch is in the ON position. You push the switch, it comes out and you adjust..push it back in so that your pant leg doesn't catch it and snap a cheap piece of plastic clean off...and if it doesn't snap off, then it will turn and mess up the setting you had. So the "push function" is just an insurance plan of a new headlamp switch

Thank you all for confirming!
