Dealer build sheet lookups

I am looking for a DB9 coupe. I asked my local dealer to look up the build sheet for a car that I am interested in and he says they only do that for owners.

Many times cars are advertised without specific codes for paint or interior colors, and sellers often take really bad photos that are hard to interpret, thus my interest in getting build sheets for cars I have an interest in.

Sellers also are inconsistent with listing options, another reason to get a build sheet before jumping on a plane to see a poorly described car..

Is this a uniform policy throughout the dealer network in the US?

Are there other sources for build sheets? In particular '07 - '11 DB9?

Not sure on build sheets but if you give the dealer the VIN they can lookup details on the car. I did that with my 08DB9 when the seller mis-advertised the car as Almond Green. It didn't match what I knew as Almond Green and the dealer confirmed its actually BRG.

The vendors on here, specifically stuart from velocity (I think?) can help get you a build sheet based on VIn

Any dealer not giving you the build option sheet is just being d*^k, esp if you've dealt with them in the past.

Email me the VIN - Stuart@VelocityAP.com and I will send you the build sheet plus any warranty/extended plan details.

Charge: 1 Beer.

NB - no **** beer, don't be sending me any Coor's Lite or any of that nonsense.

Thanks for the offer, Stuart.. might owe you a keg when it is all said and done..
In this case I have not done business with the dealer previously, but they would have every expectation for my service and parts business once I find a car.
My question was really if there is a consistent dealer policy in this regard or if my local has their own non-disclosure policy

There is no policy on this. I've received option build sheets from several dealers when I asked; some I've done business with and some not. I would assume that you've had your Vanquish serviced by some dealer, no? If so, then you'd ask them for the build sheet rather than the dealer who is selling the car.

Service records are confidential, contain personal information.

The build sheet contains nothing confidential. I can't think of any good reason to refuse to provide it to any customer.

I had no problems getting build sheets from dealers when I was looking before I got mine, but service records were another thing... Some dealers would give them out (some redacted) others would only show them to you in person on a screen.

In my case this actually worked to my favor. For whatever reason the dealer was not able to obtain the service records and was forced to sell the car at a deep discount. I suspect it was because the car was previously owned by a high profile investment banker who wanted the records sealed. The only Issue I found being an Airbag Sensor internal Fault which I repaired for about $80.00 and a few minor cosmetic flaws which I can restore over time. Last week it even passed PA State inspection but to answer the original question there is a book I highly recommend to all Aston Martin owners called:

The Definitive Guide to New Gaydon Era Aston Martin: A Buyer's and Enthusiast's Guide to: Vantage V8 , V8 S, V12 - Coupe & Roadster. DB9 - DBS - Virage Coupe & Volante, New Vanquish and Rapide by Author Grant Neal. It has a VIN Decoder and a pre buy inspection checklist that should prove to be of tremendous help. Please check it out?
