V8V - Steering wheel drops, won't stay 'fixed'
 

Hi everyone,

I recently picked-up a 2006 V8V and have discovered that the steering wheel will drop about 1/4'' - 1/2'' while driving, in spite of being "locked" firmly by the lever/mechanism under the column. In the "locked" position I can actually move the wheel down slightly just by gently pulling down on it. This issue came to my attention as the steering wheel kept getting into my sight-line of the tach while driving... quite annoying.

Wondering if anyone has run into this issue before and has a remedy? Is it just a matter of removing the bottom half of the steering column and possibly tightening a bolt somewhere? It looks like there are 4 screws that hold the bottom section in place... I am wary, however, about just 'going for it' and then not being able to get it all back together!

Anyway, if anyone has thoughts/video link/etc. I would greatly appreciate it.

Yep. Had the same issue when I got my 09 v8v. Removed the column trims and tightened the locking lever pivot screw a bit (right side of column). Problem solved.

Hmmmm. Mine creaks every now and then when the g's are high and I'm pulling/pushing on it a hair [not like the seats are super bolstered]. I wonder if tightening the pivot screw will make the creak stop.
