V8 Vantage suddenly losing battery charge

My car appears to be not holding charge suddenly.

- Left my car for 1 week, forgot to trickle charge it. Couldn't start the car (can't open trunk, but can open door).
- Trickle charge it for 1 week. Could open trunk.
- Unplug trickle charger, immediately can't start the car. Couldn't open trunk either.

Seems like my battery completely is not holding charge? But I just changed my battery <1 year ago. I suspect there's a short circuit somewhere? I cannot figure out what is going on now.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Remove parcel tray to get access to battery. Get in car, close door. Remove battery terminal, wait and then touch the removed terminal back to the battery post. If you see anything other than a very small spark, you have a short.
Note that a host of issues can occur from disconnecting the battery depending on the age of you car. Some ( like folding mirrors can only be fixed by the dealer)

My guess would be that one of the cells of the battery is internally shortened = dead battery. To check connect a booster battery to the terminal in the engine room, disconnect the minus of car battery, check voltage. If it is below 12 volts it is dead. If you like you can charge the car battery prior to measuring the voltage but wait 15 to 20 minutes after charging before you check the voltage - this waiting is important!
Boost battery is to maintain all settings you would loose if you disconnet you battery, the V8 has his annoying habit.

Ill pile on to this discussion. mine has been becoming weaker and weaker, (you can tell the starter has a hard time starting) and if i havent driven the car for a 1hour drive, the voltage is very close to 12.00V, and should be in the 12.6 range.
so, i need a new battery.
where is the best place to get one... dealer?

Redpants sells a lightweight battery. It looks smaller than the original. I recently replaced my battery (I have a roadster, so I don't know if it is a tighter fit than a hardtop).

I bought a replacement battery at one of the national chains, and it was a heavy bastard. You have to contort yourself to get the battery in, and some of the screws are behind the battery and you have to do it blind. I am not handy and I was able to do it so don't let my experience put you off. I only mention this as you may want to go with the lightweight.

My replacement battery works fine. I think I found it using a battery search on the store's website.

I recently fitted an AutoCraft Platinum AGM Battery, Group Size H8, 850 CCA that comes with a 3 year warranty. All good for the month or so before I put the car away for the winter. I now have it hooked up to a battery maintainer.
