Previous Service Records

I went to the dealer that originally sold and serviced my vantage for the first 4 years of its life. I wanted to get its service history.

i brought proof of ownership and spoke directly to Aston Service Manager.

i was surprised to hear that Aston, as a company policy will not release any records, with redacted owner info, to anyone other than that particular owner.

Having owned a bunch of other high end cars (Porsche, MB, BMW,etc.) (albeit not 'exotics...') in the past, dealers would share redacted service history...

have any of you all run into this before? I like to get as much service and warranty history as I can on my cars...

Maybe you could ask them to forward a letter to the previous owner and hopefully he/she would respond. Did you not get the stamped service book when you purchased the car?

My CarFax report shows things like oil changes, tire rotations, and brake work... that might get you the info you're looking for.

I wonder what is their rationale for that policy? If the previous owner data is blanked out, what's the big deal sharing it with a new owner?

Not just AM. Other marquees as well.

How's your relationship with the dealer?

Cos it really is at the discretion of the dealer. They are usually nice enough to print out a summary without the personal info.

silver997 is infamous around these parts
I am running into this problem with Mercedes. I am trying to buy something from a distance away, so I am dealing with sales people. I am talking about warranty service history. Not to mention private service records. Nope. They won't budge. So I don't buy. I complained to Mercedes corporate. No help there either. I guess they don't want people to see what it takes to keep a Benz on the road?

When I bought my Vantage from Aston Martin Calgary, the sales guy got the service records from Aston Martin Vancouver for me. He was awesome, although I told him I would not make an offer without these records. I was surprised to see there was nothing major or minor done under warranty on my car. So much for the Aston Martin stereo type that these cars are a PITA to own!

Before I bought mine I had the same problem getting the records. The AM dealer that did all the service in San Fran refused to release the records except to the owner [even though they were no longer an AM dealer]. They wouldn't even just tell me on the phone what was done so it took 2 weeks for the owner to get them sent to the dealer he'd consigned it to. During the search I'd talked to the service department in several dealers confirming service on several cars I had looked at and never had a problem. So if this is a factory policy very few of the dealers are following it, and the ones that are make it frustrating.

I have run into similar issues with several cars. Local AM-Lotus dealer will give details on what was fixed on cars they've worked on. They may not release the notes, but have told me what was done by them for the previous owner (I had an Evora which they sold to first owner).

Can you find the previous owner and have them ask for the records? Will your local Aston dealer at least tell you what was done without you seeing the invoices?

My 2006 V8V had all the stamps in the book up to about 35k miles from the same dealer and they would not share any info about the car from the previous owner. I was asking for VERY basic info... like had they ever replaced the clutch... Would not give out one ounce of info. Its really not fair to the current owners...

Maybe it's just that specific dealer's policy. Before I bought my car, from the same dealer that sold it to the original owner, they gave me several pages of service history records.

I doubt the records are only available to that one dealer. You might ask other Aston dealers if they can provide you with the records.

My dealer is Park Place Ltd in Bellevue, WA if you want to try them.
