Thumbs down New Vantage -- another disappointment

Just as I'm starting to warm up to the new exterior design, another blow was delivered.
Noticed the ugly black bumper stops added to the otherwise beautiful rear end of the new Vantage.
Is this another stupid US DOT regulation thing??
Can they be removed once customers take delivery of their cars??

Yes, they're DOT compliance. They're just hollow plastic, I have no idea why they have to put them there but they mount into slots cut into the body. I'm sure they'll come off.

In any pic I've seen with a EU (UK) long licence plate these were not installed . Only pics I've seen them on is with the smaller US licence plate - likely just covering the holes for the longer plate brackets. The pic above (the showroom plate) is just covering the holes but an actual plate is much smaller.

That was the launch vehicle at Aston Martin Washington, DC. It was a factory car on a road show going from dealership to dealership. It was not for sale.

I wonder if those are the 5-mph bumpers.

Car is still hideous regardless.

Since you were at FCI, did you ask Mark if they are removable or packing material or just came here to complain?

Ha, I agree. Those things would look awful on a cleanly styled car. With everything going on at the back of this car, it almost looks like they fit in.

Just have them removed, and if there are any holes left, then fill them and be done. Not difficult on the Vantage to do this. Early DB9's its a bit harder due to refitting the LP lights and truck button. But can still be done.

this was the exact feedback the dealer told me when I pointed them out before driving the car last weekend.

Yep, but worse on some cars compared to others depending color. Not all that terrible from behind on the one below. Actually one of the best color combo's I have seen so far.

I was not convinced on the looks of the new Vantage when it was launched. It didn't help that the colour that I saw was a metallic yellow, and I thought I might warm to it over time and in a different colour, like grey. However, the photo below is one of the ugliest I've seen of this car, especially with those bumper-stops and those wheels. There's just too much detail. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, of course, but I'll be sticking with my current 2015 V8VS.

Speaking of how US DOT can 'enhance' a car's appearance. Was in Monterey for car week and while at the Concourso Itliano got a reminder of how US DOT can really kill a design. Always loved the 70's Maserati Bora. Guess which is Euro spec?

they have to put them there due to the law

something about 5mph collisions not doing any damage to your bumper or some garbage... I mean if someone bumped that rear end even super slow that could be a costly problem so they have to put those hideous things on... I wouldn't paralell park the car but some folks will be doing that... I remember the outrage with the bugatti veyron, its a united states thing
