shifting issue

Greetings al!

I've tried the search fuction, and didn't see anything that exactly matched my problem, so forgive me if this question has been asked already. I've a 2007 SSI Vantage, and over the past month, on two seperate occasions I've had this issue come up. When coming up to a stop sign, I've shifted from 2nd into neutral via the "both paddles" method, and the car will shift into nuetral, but the dash display will continue to show "2" instead of "N", and the car wont shift up or down. The dash idicator for "D" will start to flash, then become solid, with the "N" button no longer illuminated. However, the car will still be in neutral. I've had to shut the car off and restart it after 30 seconds or so- starting it any sooner will not clear the problem. I called my local AM service department and the tech there told me to not use the paddles to shift to neutral at stop signs/lights, but instead to just keep the vehicle in 1st gear with the brakes on, as perhaps my method was "confusing" the car? I had been under the impression that the car was supposed to be driven as a manual would be. It should be noted that the clutch was replaced ~7,000 miles ago, and the transmission seems to be fine- no clunky shifting/etc. Any help with these issues would be greatly appreciated.

I don't ever shift to neutral with the paddles until after the car is in first or it's stopped. I will upshift and downshift with paddles but only pull back on both after I'm in first gear so perhaps the am Tech is correct
