Aston Martin Vantage V8 (Convertible) vs. Maserati GT (Convertible) as Daily Driver
He may have been speaking about worst case scenarios. How long do you think they would last driving on automatic mode?
I owned a Vantage and have driven a GranSport Maserati (one of the best condition ones in US) many times. GranSport is no Aston Martin; plain and simple. The Maserati interior is well sewn, but cheap material. Doesn't have the smell or tactile sensation of the Aston. There's no outer arm rest on the Maserati and you'll have to deal with stick buttons and the like. The start up of the Maserati is not as great as Aston. Maserati has nice turn in and steering feel, the brakes aren't as cool as they look seemed lacking in stopping power. Great back seat is a big plus. The Cambiocorsa trans is fine if you want to drive in manual and fast. Makes the same burble sound off the throttle and between gears like a Ferrari. Maserati costs a heck lot less used, is a beautiful car, but it can't do anything better than the Vantage in terms of performance. Aston is certainly "cooler" FWIW.
I've thought about a Maser GT Spyder or GS Spyder alot, so I get the dilemma. I would pick the Aston every time if "cost of entry" isn't the prime reason to lean towards the Maserati.

Regardless of clutch life, a sport shift isn't going to see 100% duty in auto. Average life seen on here over the years I would say 40k miles. Abused a bit its going to be in the 30k range. Most enthusiasts use the paddles regardless of traffic. Nice thing about a SS box, anyone can drive it.
If livability in traffic is a big concern, why not consider a DB9 with the automatic. Same transmission as the automatic Maserati and 4 extra cylinders to help with dragging the pointless back seat around everywhere.
Mate that car so so sexy...
Great daily driver. Reliability if driving that much will be pretty good. Gas mileage shouldn't be concern if you want an Aston Martin or the like. Hwy on cruise control you'll be in the 20's. Around town closer to half that.
Reliability is good. Traffic MPG will be bad.
I've driven my 2006 DB9 a few days a week over the past 8+ years, 5-6K miles a year. Few unexpected issues, never been left stranded.
The big service is the ignition coilpacks that will set you back $4-5K at somewhere around 40-50K miles.

What year GranTurismo are you looking at? I'd suggest looking at a Gran Turismo S and 4.7s not 4.2s. They are quite solid cars. Outside of variator wear which is like 3.5k~ to fix if they completely go and minor suspension issues that may arise. The rest of the car is quite solid. The Gran Turismo is much more of a GT car than a Vantage is imo, the vantage is more a sportcars than a GT car, the DB9 is Astons GT car not the Vantage so a Gran Turismo will be quite different than a Vantage imo. The Gran Turismo is more DB9 sized, it's a full 2+2 which you can easily fit adults into and is more spacious inside vs a Vantage. The ZF 6spd Auto is quite reliable. Both great choices either way whatever you go for. The GranTurismo and Vantage are alot of car for the money either way. A thorough PPI on either car and if clean would feel fine getting into, I think the GT would be an easier car to DD but it's more of personal preferences though.

my v8vantage is a cruising car... I fell in love with the color and style but hate the ASM design... the jerking of the single clutch will get old after a while... turns more heads... little to no growl below 50mph and the sport button isnt that sporty “compared “ to the Maserati GT sport button...
